Hi, I'm a Newbie here, hoping to talk to other women experiencing my symptoms and how to cope! I am 51, haven't had a period for a year - I am alternating between hot sweats and freezing cold chills! It has got to the stage I am too scared to go out, sometimes the sweat is dripping off my face and hair and down my back, then I'm freezing cold, then sweating again! It is so embarrassing. Any other women out there who can give me advice?? I have tried every commercial remedy on the market but THEY DON"T WORK! Sweat sweat - hoping to hear from some other ladies - Thanks

I'm new here too. 53.
So far, have managed to keep things manageable. But wary and just wanting to find out what others are experiencing.
My premenopause was much worse than when my period stopped. Had huge bone pain in legs and arms, and "phantom" lumps all over the place, and stages when I'd just lie on the bed and feel like I was dying. Hot flushes too...
Lots of blood tests, but the only thing "wrong" was the hormones.
I then went onto minerals, in particular magnesium, boron, selenium, and altered my diet to include a lot of salads, fruits, veges, whole grains. Added in Flaxseed oil, which I mix with cottage cheese, tomato puree, and chopped celery, parsley and chives, and use as a butter substitute. changed things around so that I eat any protein before 1 pm and don't eat after 6 p.m. That improved things, but the bed clothes still fly at least once in the night.
Also really upped my vitamin C using Natural factors natural fruit chews.
My hot flushes reduced markedly after minerals, but I find when I go off the minerals, after a while the hot flushes get worse again, so at the moment, I'm just reworking the minerals. I've also added Fish oil back in to my diet as well.

At 40 I am going through the perimenopause stage. I began experiencing wildly fluctuating moods (didn't help that I was going thru a seperation - ), wicked headaches, sweats and unpredictable (but still present) periods. I went to see a nutritionist who muscle tested me for intolerances. All the usual suspects showed up i.e. dairy (esp cheese), wine (OMG), wheat, sugar . . . I managed to avoid all of these although the side effects were a little gruesome for a couple of days (sorry kids!) However the thing that has made the most difference (especially to the sweats) was avoiding caffeine. Since my shift to Auckland 5 months ago I have not been as strict but would like to contact a nutritionist down here. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I started perimenopause after my only son was born - at the age of 41. Dr told me to go on HRT but I balked at that and consulted a herbalist instead. I had lots of health issues at the time and it took a while to get the process really working. BUT it worked, my symptoms reduced, if not actually disappeared. I didn't have much money and she was one of the true natural medicine proponents who believe in charging what the patient can afford ...a wonderful woman. If you go the natural way, this is a sign of true belief in what they do - not just for money.
Anyway, after a couple of years I moved out of NZ to Asia and consulted a chinese herbalist. He took my pulse, told me "very heaty, very heaty" and gave me a heap of herbs to take home and boil, reduce to a cup full of rather "interesting" flavours and drink ...three days in a row.
3days after that, my period came and all symptoms (for that month)disappeared! I visited this wonderful man for two years almost monthly ($20 a visit) and have never looked back. Over time, my visits became more widely spaced until time went by and I suddenly realised - 'hey, i haven't been to see Dr recently ' and then it clicked ...I no longer needed to . I had no hot flushes, no temper tantrums , no violent outbursts,no depressions, no aches and pains in my breast, nor ants crawling on my skin ...I was free! That was ages ago now - and at 51 my periods have stopped for six months...no more symptoms, if they will come again I don't know. But it no longer bothers me.
Message : If you can find a Chinese herbalist in NZ - visit them.

Hey all. I am 53 and have had night sweats for about 4 to 5 years although not as bad now. I used to go to bed with a pile of fresh tee shirts by bed as would wake up cold and shivery and feel too cold to get out of bed to change. This took care of having to get out of bed!!!lol. I would hear the discarded teeshirt land on the floor...clomphhhhh! Always amzed me at how much moisture I lost. My hot tip to try...and it has worked for me over the past month, is a glass of soy milk each day!!! Havent had a night sweat since! Worth having a go...and I would love to hear if anyone else has such amazing results! Even Bonnier!!!!
