Hi do ho neighbours....

Well as of today there has been no spew, I repeat no spew. Things could of course change at any minute and I have the washing machine and dettol at the ready.
I thought the same thing last night and then Sarh herfed up in her nice clean bed.

Emily is eating a little bit, but often puts it in her mouth and then pulls a face and spits it out like it tastes funny. Sarah is doing the same so it muct be part of the bug.
Both have got their sparkle back today so I am hopeful that we have turned a corner. Neither are by any means better, but hopefully no worse at least.
Plus Emily has finally done a pooey nappy after 10 days of nothing - that must make her feel a bit better anyway.

Had a massive tanty today as I am so sick of sick kids who won't eat. I felt much better afterwards. I'm not sure my hubby did though.

Hope you are all well and happy.

Hope things are settle Suomi - sounds like a horrid bug.
Gutz cmum1 hope Charli is feeling better now.

I went shopping the other day (which I don't do nowadays) usually DH does it but as he was away I indulged. Picked up some baby foods and as DD has been so good lately I tried a couple of teaspoons of the pumpkin/sweetcorn and she LOVED it. Latched onto the spoon like she does the bottle and was hmmmmm'ing her way through the spoonfuls. I did get some spills afterwards due to her being in her exersaucer and she's now throwing herself around in that! (I don't normally put her in anything after a feed) but with picking up the teenagers froms school last week was a mess.

Anyway overall it seemed great - burped well etc.
Well did that come back to kick me in the ass!

I've now had 2 days of non wind happening and she's had wicked cramps. Her reflux has flared up also in between feeds.

Oh well - hopefully one day we will get there I'm beginning to wonder if she will ever be able to eat solid foods!!!!!

DD coped well with the to'ing and fro'ing from COllege last week - day sleeps were non existant due to her nodding off in the car. I will say that I'm glad that's over now and now attempting to get some sort of routine back into her day with sleeps.

Hows everyone else doing?

FI: hows Ian's cold and his black eye!!!
Pearl: Have you tried solids again lately? Hows Tyde doing?
DD sounds like she's displaying similar symptoms to Tyde when you've tried solids.

Gotta run, DD moaning - time to entertain!

Hi

Well things seem to be settling down here.
Emily is happy as Larry, eating everything in sight and no longer attached to me at all times. This morning she was literally roaming around looking fo things to eat - I couldn't keep up wit her. She still doesn't really want milky food but thats OK as she is eating so much of everything else.
Sarah is still not quite right and still needs persuasion to eat. Oh well, McDonalds did the trick this morning!

Kat - Emily had lots of problems with anythign with sweetcorn in it. I asked the dietition about it and she she no cron until 12 months as their digestive system can't handle it. You've got to wonder why they put it in baby food then? We also had trouble with the S26 AR formula as it was thickened with corn. For the longest time we stuck to baby rice and neocate and plain home cooked veges, and pears.

Hope everyone is well and happy.
But at least I no longer want to run away from home.

So glad things are resuming to normal for you Suomi.
Oh corn woops .... would explain her issues with it!

She loved the baby food and gobbled it down without hesitation so I'm glad she's not gagging it all back up.

Baby rice gives her indigestion and wind issues also the few times I've tried it. Last time I decided to not go there again. Shame as it's a bland food and would be great to have her eating it mixed with her milk.

I'll try plain home cooked veges then see how we go.
Might leave it for another week or 2 though as I've only just got her winding properly again with no cramps.

Pears were great, seemed to leave no nasty lasting effects! The baby ones (watties) I tried some time ago.

Glad you are home to stay Suomi, I know what you mean sometimes the idea of that is great! My home help (relative) went home this morning ... sob sob. Was great with her cooking dinners!

DD went down for half an hour this am, grghhhh. I left her but she was beside herself in the end so up she got. Overall about 55 mins of in bed and a huge burp/spill when up!

Must go and entertain!

Hello everyone :P

Kat~ Your DD sounds so much like leo. Lately ive found if he wakes up and is hysterical and i cant settle him in cot the pram can resettle him, not ideal but ill do what worksd. I am pleased that the corn info was pointed out cause i forgot about that LOl the dietician told us the same but suggested corn thins for a snack LOL I know that you have prob tried Infacol for wind? does it help? I hopet hat DD is more settled this afternoon/evening.

Suomi~Thats great that Emily is eating again & i hope that Sarah follows suit soon.

Gutz~I hope the rain stops soon babe & the water leaves your back yard, either that or you invest in kayaks LOL Im sorry that little miss still isnt well. Hugs babe Hope that you are feeling alot better soon.

fi~Thanks for the suggestions with leo, I hope that you have managed to get more food into Ian. Hugs

Food wise with leo he has a really boring diet. He lives on farex, pear, and organics tinned chicken & the odd meat. He can only swallow purees.. If he has any wheat he screams almost non stop till it out his system. Lucky for us he has a good intake of Neocate. Hopefully when his tests are done we will find out whats happening and whats causing the cramps and digestion issues etc.

Hugs to all those that need it.

Take care and I hope everyones weeks improve.

HI all!
Kat I tried some vegie a while ago and had the same results as you did... then last week I thought I'd try banana as DS1 LOVED it and ate heaps.. Tyde still gags on anything so not ready but even just whatever he swallowed down stuffed him up for another 3-4 days.. so am flagging solids again for a while.. we have our dietitian appt tomorrow so will chat with her, but I think we'll just stick to homemade vegies and try every so often to see when he's 'ready ' to swallow them! at least I've got him into a good routine lately , holding off bottles for 3 and a ahlf to 4 hours and then he'll drink a big bottle happily, and same with keeping him up around 2hrs during the day and then he'll have a long nap... YAY!!
Kells, I read that you are having bowel biopsies for Leo?? hugs girly. My SIL is cealiac that's why they have taken us a wee bit more seriously I think! hopefully Tyde won't have that problem!!!! aarrrgghhh
hugs girlies!

Hey ladies, wow DD went down at 10.30am and is still asleep! She did wake 45 mins later and I left her. Wahoooo!!!
What home made vegies do you cook Pearl???
Angelkels: Infacol has never worked for us! Neither has colimed or gripe water. Cham Rad is my product of choice and it works 9 times out of 10. weleda product says for teething on the bottle. Wind is great today! Now the food has left her system!
The 3 days of twisting/crying/ with no wind result just isn't worth it! I'll give her pears again eventually as I now they work ok.

Just bought another buggy for the house yay! Now I can keep the mountain buggy in the car 24/7 saves me lugging it around.

Overall good here, DD had a great sleep last night and no doubt will be a box of birds when she does finally wake up.

When DH left the house around 1 hour after she went down I was outside collecting the horses feed buckets. He stopped and said she's crying her head off, so I said that's cool she'll live.
When I came in a short time later she was asleep!!!

Pearl my DH's sister is anaphylactic and her DD has multiple allergies. God I hope we don't spiral to that level!

Hugs to you Kells for Leo's biopsies.

Cruising along here - hope Catlin gets into her appt on time - stinky weather.

Ian's messy naps continue and his gluten sensitivity/coeliac screen got pushed back until the 11th of Sept so I am going to go back to GF for a few weeks to see if that can stabilise the nappies and then reintro it a couple of weeks before the screen. Guess I better check with the Dr that that won't mess with the results too much but I really can't let the naps continue with tweaking his diet and that seems the logical tweak - blast it. The porridge was going down quite well but back to the healtheries GF version I guess.

Positively he has coped with his losec reduction (although still refluxing consistently) so will look at tweaking that again shortly cause am fairly happy that if it deterioates I would only have to up it to the level that he is on currently as opposed to the level he was on before the first reduction.

Right am being naughty as am on computer during Ian's up times and that is not fair on him so off I go....

Yeah - kids are eating!!!!

In fact I can't stop the pair of them. Emily has been followig me around all day growling for more food. She had her cereal this morning and had only just got down when she stood at her chair whinging for food. She then proceeded to eat two boxes of raisins and two pieces of toast! This was more than she ate all of last week. All I did today was feed kids, which was a nice change from cleaning up vomit.
I'm sure that the new probiotics that the naturopath put us on have helped. That and an immune boosting tonic.
She's doing so well that I will definately think about reducing her losec in the next while. She missed a couple while sick and seemed OK. I'm a bit nervous, but I'll have to bite the bullet soon.

It is so nice to have healthy kids!
Except now Sarah has for some unknown reason decided to start throwing major wobbly tantrums. This is the placid child who has basically never thrown one in her life. Another interesting challenge to overcome. She had her first visit to public kindy today which was exciting. One step closer to school which scares me. She was very shy and is going to take a while to settle in. Its much larger than her private kindy but so many more experiences to be had. Shes got lots of friends there from coffee group so she will be fine.

Life is good. I'm off to visit a school on Thursday and looking to do some work there. This has cheered me up no end. I really need to get out of the house for one day and be the person I was before I had kids. I miss the buzz of teaching, and feeling valued in my own right. This is a totally new school to me so it will be intersting.

Hope life is treating you all well.

YAY Suomi on healthy 'ier' kids!! shame about the tanty's Reef used to be like that after illness.. Good luck with kindy.. Reef has THRIVED there and now can only talk about 'when' he goes to school! hahaha
Kat, yay on settled girl again... these solids are scary eh! I just will make pureed pumpkin or kumara I think..... when I'm brave enough to try again!
Fi, so sorry about Ian's issues with gluten etc and hope those nappies are under control soon... don't you hate how they 'delay' these visits/tests... frustrating.
Tyde back into a great routine and drinking well... dietitan appointment today.. so will discuss the solids issue!
ok grizzly baby ready for a nap I think, chat soon!

Hi all,

I'll be off for a few days being spoilt by my mum in the Corromandel. Yah for someone else cooking.

Both kids are awesome again. Emily is eating everything that isn't bolted down. She crawls around growling at me for food - a lovely change. Today she has eaten 6 slices of bread among many other things! Its nice to see her thighs turning from sticks to normal baby legs again.

Have a good rest of the week and weekend.

Seemed logical to me at the time.

When Gem started walking we had just worked out her gluten sensitivity, she was on a suitable dose of Losec and was dairy free so yes it did improve but I don't think it was particularily the walking that did it. Developmental stages can worsen reflux whilst the body adjusts, so crawling, teething, sitting, standing and falling down on the bottom etc may actually aggravate it.
The theory is though that being more upright decreases reflux, and maybe being more mobile provides distraction.

Gaviscon does have a side-effect of constipation for some/most. Have you tried just reducing the amount of Gaviscon per bottle, or maybe even just in one bottle initially. Gaviscon is so helpful for reflux though, that I would recommend getting the constipation treated. Constipation is reasonably common in our children with gastric reflux due to decreased gut motility. Are you using anything to help with constipation?

Thanks for thinking of me when you were having such a rough time. Things are better now in your house I think I read?

I put a bit on my "Taking a break" thread last week because I still haven't had much time to get on here. She had three appointments last week. The third was with her private paediatrician who hadn't seen her for a year. He was a little concerned when he examined her and suggested another MRI so there may be another appointment this week. We aren't too concerned but then we can't ignore him either.

We have managed to improve her headache again after seeing him so that is good news. Next month will be the two year anniversary of her becoming unwell.

It doesn't sound particularily like she needs the probiotics at the moment. They may be useful to replace the good bugs after antibiotics, a gastro bug or if things just deteriorate as Losec can allow the overgrowth of bad bugs. If the spilling doesn't start decreasing or becomes more of an issue, they may be useful as they encourage good gut motility and digestion. Excess wind may also be a sign of the need for good bugs to be replenished.
