DD (10 weeks) has silent reflux. She is currently on 12.5mg of Losec although this still doesn't quite control it. It certainly helps but she still suffers quite a bit and when she's having a bad time with it refuses her feeds. She is BF with the odd bottle of Karicare normal formula.
I haven't tried a dairy free diet yet as DS also had reflux but the dairy free diet made no difference. Chelsea doesn't have excema, has pretty normal bowel motions although she has the odd particularly runny greeny coloured one. She has a fair bit of wind but no other real symptoms. If I go on a dairy free diet how long does it take to find out if it's helping her? If she was fully formula fed, how long would that take if I swapped formulas? Just curious, want to solve these issues for her!! Thanks \:\) \:\)

Don't know about the breastfeeding bit, but it took around 3 weeks with formula to see the full results. Although we did see progress within a few days.

She sounds like she is on quite a good dose of losec so maybe it is something to look at. If you are using Karicare you could try teh Karicare Sensicare which is slightly hypo-allergenic. I think the proteins in it are slightly broken down to make digestion easier.

Good luck.

Neocate and losec are the luxury end of the scale which we seem to work our way up to after all else fails. Don't know but could you get a can of neocate now and switch onto that, while expressing at the usual milk times to keep your supply up then you would get a faster response. At the same time going on a DF diet so if things do improve and you go back to breast then there will be less diary there.

Or even use the medela supplemental feeding system with neocate as the supplement so you BF at the same time, while also reducing/ceasing dairy in your diet. http://www.breastmates.co.nz/Medela_Specialty_Feeding_Devices.html

About 10 days gives an indication of whether there is going to be an improvement or not but the older they are the longer it seems to take (my boy at 8 mths with solids in the mix took 5-6 wks - and it was a behavioural improvement more than anything). Now though if he accidently has diary the reaction is faster on a smaller amount.

I figure go for the top shelf and get things sorted and then move backwards to less premium products if you can - I swear my boy wouldn't be on such a high dosage of losec if I had got both my issues (milk and reflux) sorted earlier on - I just thought it was reflux only and couldn't understand why he was still so grumpy when he was on a good dose of meds. Now milk is sorted, pain is sorted, but reflux still occurs - and hope that is just a time thing now

I trialed dariy free for around 3 weeks and didn't really think there was any improvemet until I went back on the dairy and then things were very obvious. With in 24 hours ELise was full on screaming and arching back and hardly slept at all. This pattern continued any time she was accidently given dairy. It has always been a 24 hour delayed gut reaction.
I breast feed on a dairy free diet for a year and then swapped to neocate.
I can give you heaps of tips for dairy free diet, it is not so bad just let me know if it will be helpful.

Thanks for all your suggestions etc. I think it might be the formula that is giving her a hard time as the last couple of days I have only BF her (still eating dairy too) and she has been loads better. On the days I have given her formula (like only one bottle) she has had watery poos and has been very unhappy. I have bought some Sensikare to try, perhaps this will work?! Is there any way you can get a sample of Neocate?
