Can Ranitidine cause diarehha (? sorry don't know how to spell it!!). My 3 month old son is on Ranitidine and I've always thought that his poos were normal but my sister in law (who has 3 littlies) asked last night if he has a tummy upset because he had diarehha. His poos are always like that and if they aren't of 'normal consistancy' I was wondering if it may be his medication? Any feedback??

Is it greenish or very stinky? DS had/has food intolerances and green, runny, stinky poo is a sure sign he's eaten something that he can't process - for us that was any dairy products and now gluten, soy and egg too.

If in doubt ask your Plunket nurse to take a look!

I've had phone conversations about diarrhoea only to find out it was normal breastfed poos. Is he breastfed, how long has he been on Ranitidine and did the poos change when he went on to Ranitidine? Diarrhoea is a very rare side-effect of Ranitidine.
Do you want to describe what his poos is like for us?

Sorry I should have said before that he is bottle fed. His poos are an english mustard colour and consistency and has quite a 'sweet' smell to them (if poos can smell sweet!!!). He has been on Ranitidine since he was 6 weeks old.

I would try talking to the formula people. Nutricia have an 0800 number and have a great dietician there who will tell you what the side effects of formula are and if what your bubs is doing is normal. Have a look on the back of tins for a NZ contact number for whatever formula you are using perhaps?

What is the skin like on his bottom? If he doesn't have nappy rash or thrush and it isn't burning his skin then I wouldn't be concerned. What sort of formula is he on? - cow's, soy, goat's, hypoallergenic...

No nappy rash or anything and he doesn't seem distressed either so I don't think he has a tummy ache. He is on Karicare Starter formula.

If he isn't bothered I wouldn't be concerned.
