I am typing this while listening to my baby scream her heart out in her cot. The losec seems to be working some of the time with not as much screaming, but still everytime I out her down for her sleep she just can go on forever, plus she still wants to feed all the tim when up. How are you ever to know when its the pain that makes them scream, or when they are pulling one over yah as she has still got to learn how to self settle.
And how long should i give it to know if the dose of losec she on is enough?
Gee its going ot be along day....and night becuse she won't settle for over 1-2 hours after she wakes at night too. At least with my son he was so tired from the day of screaming that he did sleep well at night.

I would go back and see the paed or GP to see a paed. Not normal to scream like that all the time!

I agree, not normal to scream like that, if you have a pead can you call and leave a message for him/her to call you, so you can discuss it? Otherwise try your GP again.

Hey Lynne, I'm not really much help but just wanted to let you know ella was exactly the same as Charlie - it absolutely does your head in hearing a screaming child and not knowing if they are pulling one over you or they are generally in pain. I was naughty and just couldn't leave her to self settle too long because the thought of her being upset and sore just renched my heart out. I know its not a solution and I know it sure makes things hard for you.

Ella was also the same with her feeding, I remember at one stage she was having 11 feeds a day, I thought feeding her was going to help her settle when all I was doing was topping her tummy up and making the problem a million times worse.

They do say give the Losec 3weeks to really make a difference, but I have also had my GP tell me it should take effect instantly. I would be phoning the GP anyway you need some form of a break from all the screaming!! I know I am a relative stranger but I do need to remind myself of what a screaming refluxer is like in anticipation for #2 so if you need a break please give me a call I can pop her in my front pack and take her and Ella for a stroll to the beach to give you a break!

As for the Paed situation....mmmmm I know we can't be naughty on the board so all I will say is good luck to you finding someone helpful in Dunedin :-)

Emma- Its very tempting to fly somewhere to talk to someone decent. Well my girl is finally in bed asleep with a dummy in...normally she won't take one but DP managed to somehow...but what that means is she not having a peaceful sleep as I have found out when she took the dummy last time....This is all so emotionally draiing and its totally doing my head in. You think I would be able to cope with the whole situation abit better since I have been here before.

Mine both have dummies It seems to help Mercedes with her reflux, and then I felt mean letting Sienna cry and the Plunket nurse told me I should give her one too...

Lynne - She was doing better, I'm not sure whether it was the Losec or the dairy free diet or a combination of the two. But she has been very unsettled today and screaming thru feeds again, and she brought up her entire 7pm feed all over me so who knows. She's asleep now with the dummy hanging out of her mouth. I think part of it is that she didn't get the full 5mg of Losec this morning as she spat a lot of it out. We saw the GP today tho and her HFA # is thru for the Neocate which is good, and she signed the form for the Child Disability Allowance as well.

Has Charlotte settled at all now? I'm going to give both of mine a Neocate feed at 10pm to try and get them to sleep longer than 2 1/2 hours.

ETA: I feel a bit the same, this is doing my head in too. I am so tired, and there is nothing else I can do to help her, and this is a whole new ballgame for me. Allergies I can do, I pretty much became an expert going thru it with Maya, but I've never had to cope with reflux and the agony it causes. At least with the allergies Maya was still happy enough and not in pain.
