My son Blake has now been on 10mg of Losec for 10 days. Should I be noticing and improvement and if so in what way? I know Losec is suppose to control the acid in the stomach and gaviscon to help with the vomitting but I just dont think either are getting any better. I was under the impression once the acid was under control that the spilling would stop but even with the gaviscon he is still spilling quite alot. Should I just be happy that he is not screaming constantly and is pretty happy most of the time or should i be worried about the constant spills. I dont want to use gaviscon if I dont have to and have tried an AR formula as he is formula feed but the AR formula just made him scream. Help am I just being nurotic????.

My first born was the projectile kind of refluxer. He basically constantly spilt on the losec (just didn't scream in agony anymore). He went on a motility drug to control the spilling for a few months - just so I could give him tummy time without him loosing his lunch.

Anyway - the losec stops the stomach producing so much acid. This means it doesn't cause so much damage and pain when the stomach contents come up.

The gaviscon is supposed to form a raft that floats on the top of the stomach contents to help keep them down. Ben was such a power chucker that it made no difference to us, so I gave that away pretty early on in the piece.

I never worried about the spilling in Ben as he was gaining weight. If Blake is gaining well and is happy, then I'm afraid its just your carpet and laundry thats going to suffer. Hang in there chick.

Hi, I remember Toby still spilled when on Losec, just as Doris25 says he just wasn't screaming in pain anymore, thats how we knew when the dose needed upping etc..when the pain was obviously back, and yes Toby was always gaining weight so not a problem. I would say though that if you are worried or think he is not on the right dose go back to your dr and tell them. Toby also didn't agree with the AR Formula we kept him on normal Formula, it upset his tummy too much.

Gaviscon Infant thickens the entire stomach contents whereas the adult syrup forms a raft. The Infant Gaviscon is better for infants. Under advice/tips on our website there is a sheet of ideas about spilly babies. It sounds like the pain from reflux is well controlled. You are doing a great job.
