Today I took Charlotte to gp again and we got some losec for her as there was little or not much improvement with Zantac. I am totally amazed and pleased all in one for the whole process thi time to be easy to get the meds I think my wee one needs so early on. Go my gp!! (Yes meg it was the male one)
Anyway question is...I am starting her on 5mg so 1/5 a capsule. Charlotte is one month today so for those who started their wees ones early did you fine it easier to give it in the puree fruit or fruit juice? At the moment Charlie is b/feed and I am hoping I can continue this but it is getting pretty full on when she wants to comfort feed(I know this is bad and makes reflux worse) all the time!!
Also when did you find it better to give the one dose.ie.morning, midday night??? She doesn't really have a better time as all seem the same a the moment. She efuses her bed all together and is starting to refuse the bouncer (raised) too. She likes the carseat but only when we are traveling so am hoping to see some improvement with settleness with new med.
Gp wants to see us in a week if she has had no improvement. ANother question??? B/c losec can take awhile to work do you continue zantac for afew days until losec is taking effect?
The most furstrating part of this whole process is that her pain may reduce but it still doesn't stop that flooded feeling charlie looks to be getting when the reflux is occuring, hence the no sleep unless in my arms...and even that is unsettled sleep
Thanks for listening and hopefully answering one or more of my many questions

'Great to have that losec I'd say

I'd use pureed pear just a tiny bit. You can freeze tiny bits in ice cube trays. 1 jar will go a long way.

In theory the losec is supposed to last for 24 hours. For me Elise was the best in the mornings so I used to give her the losec about 11am, this was when she woke from her morning nap.

I biffed the zantac and just concentrated on the losec not sure if you can use them together. It took 3 weeks for us to see a difference.

Hopefully the sleeping and the feeding will settle down when the meds kick in. Any luck with a dummy? Elise wouldn't she just wanted mummy.

Hope this helps.

Sorry I haven't got back to you on the dunedin get together Elise and Renee have both been quite sick. Will email you soon when we are back on track.

Thanks Clarie- No luck with a dummy..DP is trying hard to get her to take one but that is more so he doesn't have to hold Charlotte..typical males always finding an out. I can never get her to take it and like your wee one , she only wnats mummy. Sorry to hear things haven't been too good at your house either, finger crossed we get settled housewholds soon!
Oh 3 weeks seems so far away!!! But I know it will be worht it in the end. Haven't got to the supermarket yet so will use juice for tonight...I just want a dose into her asap then will stock up on the puree tomorrow! Thanks for the idea of freezing, funny how your mind gets clouded when you are sleep deprived

yep, pear here, (well apple actually) rather than juice, basically because its thicker & easier to swallow than something runny with granules in it.remember the 1/2 hour away from milk if you can ,esp at the start.

losec actually works fast (30mins kind of thing) so theoretically if you swap from one thing to another there shouldnt be too much problem. its if there is undertreated reflux & some throat inflamation that needs to heal then your looking at a few weeks.crossed fingers for ya:-)
as far as taking both, id ask your prescriber. ive heard mums here do both options ie take only the losec or take both. we did a straight swap to losec & had excellent results with in a few days & it just kept getting better from then.
theoretically its supposed to be given in the morning as the tummy produces the most acid duing the day but I think in a wee baby that sleeps & wakes 24/7, the point is probably mute. i started ours at night because I wanted some sleep & i thought it might help & because i had a 1/2 hour from giving it, till bath time & then milk.
good luck.

Thanks Karen....bugger didn't know about the 1/2 hour from milk bit...I fed her about 5 minutes after as she had just had a good sleep (shck I know but sometimes it does happen). Would that make it less effective for tonight?
