Osteopaths all have different areas they prefer, and different techniques. They normally stick to cranial work, as its very gentle, but they can release tension in the diaphram too.
A friend has just qualified as an osteopath (after 5 years of hard slog). She would often hold max, and give him a little cranial. His allgeries are worse than Amy's, and so is his reflux (supposedly) but you'd never know. Must ask viv to do more with Amy come to think on it...
Anyway, she said its quite like seeing a doctor - they all have their areas of expertise. Its not a bad thing to go back more than once, but you shouldn't pay full price for repeat visits. Often the effect is cumulative. A little and often has had quite miraculous effects on Max... but then I'm not paying for it so...
A great option if you are in Auckland, is to ring the shcool of Osteopathy, and go to their clinic. A tutor nearly always handles babies and small children, rather than the student... oh and the students are all close to qualifiying if they are working in clinic, and are very closely supervised. I think it only costs about $25.
Otherwise, I'd ring around. Rather than ask what they "can" do, ask what they "prefer" to do, or what their focus is. While you are on they phone, say that money is an issue, and what kind of treatment plan do they normally recommend for babies with reflux... that might be enough of a nudge to get a discount.
Good luck. :-)
