Things are going from bad to worse with Leo and his reflux... he is 10 weeks now & was diagnosed at 6 weeks with silent reflux.

Yesterday we spent day at hospital with the paeds as he choked & went blue & stayed unconciuos for quite some time. Drs think it reflux related & have him on losec now... BUT

He won't take it???? He spits its straight out and i don't blame him is horrible. Its in suspension! I know that he ain't going to take it whatever i try... has anyone had sucess.

Would i be better off getting the granules and introducing him to solids for this purpose??? or is he too little???? Dr seemed to think i should just get it down him however i can. Also he has to have gaviscon every bottle!!!
Would i be better off getting Zantac??? and hoping that he can swollow it??????

I look forward to any advice etc....

Thanks in advance Kells

Sounds like you need to do a bit more door pounding to get some answers because they are leaving you out on a loop. If it is not working then go back although there might be some other girls on this board that have tips that can help. Hope your wee mite gets better soon!

Elise did the same thing with the suspension and I changed to granules at 9 weeks. I put a tiny bit of pureed pear on a baby spoon and sprinkled the granules on and then popped it in the mouth sometimes it was a bit of in out in out and then in, but alot better than the suspension. Don't think of it as food just as a method of medicating.
Zantac tastes worse than losec, I tasted it and it is very bitter, I think you'll have the same problems.

Have a read of the stories on the spilt milk website as there are some of the children that had the go blue thing too and you might get some much needed help form there. Sounds all a bit stressful.

Kels- Yip we have been there with Cam turning blue quiet a few times...and we never got offered losec until i begged for it..pathetic a!
I would go for grandules...am starting charlie on it today (hence my post today too). Like Claire said, think of it as a med not as food for babe. Remember hun, you are leo's vioce and you do need to talk quiet loudly to be heard some time! Hugs to you hun and I hope whe you can get the losec into him that things improve

HI, Toby started on Granuals at 11 weeks (on Zantac before that) no worries taking it, use a little pear on your finger with the granuals on it and put it into the side of the mouth, it is not considered "starting solids" as its such a tiny amount of pear. Hope your wee man is ok! Take Care

We started our youngest on the granules at about 9 weeks, having tried the suspension and Zantac already. At first we were able to just put the dose on a spoon and tip it into her mouth and just keep popping them back in if they got spat out, the other way is to put them in a tiny bit of pear and give them that way. We found them to be much more effective than the suspension.
Hope you are all ok.
