Can Paracetamol reduce Reflux pain?

Just wondering if anyone knows if it's possible that paracetamol syrups (e.g. Pamol, Paracare) can reduce reflux pain (pain in the oesophagus/throat)?
And ALSO, does anyone know if paracetamol can make them sleep longer (even if it doesn’t reduce reflux pain)?
Jacob is teething (his back molars and one looks very nasty) and he had a bad afternoon sleep yesterday (woke up after a short sleep and said "sore teeth"), so today I decided to give him some Paracetamol before going to bed. He ended up having a super long sleep (just over 2 hours) and so I am thinking the paracetamol might be the reason for this (it could instead be to do with food).
But I am hoping that it doesn’t reduce reflux pain (I’m pretty sure it doesn’t but thought I would check) as if it does then that’s only going to confuse matters (when working out what foods worsen it, and he’s also on a GF trial at the moment).
Anyone know?

In my experience pamol does not help reflux pain at all. but it does help with teething pain. Elise is cutting her 2 year old molars too and I am wondering how much effect it is having on things. There never seems to be one thing happening at a time does there. I don't think it makes them sleep longer either. If it did I'd buy it by the bucket full. CLaire

In my experience no it doesn't reduce reflux pain, I have been told it can aggravate it, but I don't know how true that is, I give it to Toby when he is teething as it helps to settle him, if you think it makes him sleep longer go for it!!

In my experience...Short answer, no!
Long answer....We always found that Pamol helped Catherine when teething, but tried not to give too much as it did tend to aggravate the reflux! So, we used it if she needed it for her teeth (to help her sleep) but at the same time, would make sure I was extra vigilant on the reflux causing things (late meds, too much fruit, sauce, etc) to compensate Hope this helps

Thanks girls. Yes I didn't think it helped the reflux pain (and yes I have heard that it can aggravate reflux), and Claire, I would buy bucket loads of it too if I thought it made him sleep longer! In the last couple of days I have given it to Jacob before he goes to sleep (for his day sleep too) and during the night when he wakes up (if he says "sore teeth"), and this seems to have made him wake up less, though could be due to something else (e.g. food) of course.
While we're on the topic, I remember in someone's post (I think it was from Roz?) ages ago that you can get paracetomol "on script". Does anyone know about this? Does this mean, prescribed by your Doctor, so you don't have to pay for it? Would they still prescribe it if you just said you needed it for teething pain?

I tend to top up the pamol everytime we see the doctor just to make sure we don't run out. Yes, it is free on prescription.

Do you ask for a prescription for Pamol (or just paracetamol) and do you end up getting Pamol (if that's what you asked for) or does the chemist just give you their own paracetamol (it's all the same I know, but I wondered if the chemist's version was gluten free)?
Thing is though, Jacob doesn't often get sick so we don't go to the Doctor's very often. I will ask though next time I ring up for a repeat of his Losec (which is ages away though - he'll probably be finished teething by then!)

I get it from the gp it is called paracetamol and it is pinky colour. It is gluten free and it costs nothing. Claire If you need to know about ingredients of medicines check here http://www.medsafe.govt.nz/Consumers/cmi/CMIForm.asp

I would suggest that it is best to get Paracetamol on prescription as then the doctor can monitor how much you use. Paracetamol doesn't have many if any noticable side-effects but giving it regularily even at the recommended dose is not good for the liver. I'm not saying not to give it but don't give it regularily for more than a week or two without consulting a doctor. I also have a personal dislike of Nurofen being given without an assessment by a doctor first for that particular illness. Nurofen is very effective at reducing fever and pain to the point that I am concerned it is available over the counter because it could be masking a serious illness. Nurofen is also not ideal for our children with gastric reflux as its main side-effects are gastrointestinal. My 14-year-old is now on Losec 10mg after taking prescribed Nurofen over a period of time but she also still needs to take Nurofen from time-to-time. Sorry about the lecture.

No Roz, didn't take it as a lecture, I appreciate the advice! We don't like giving Jacob drugs of any kind but we have had no luck (regarding his teething pain) with Bonjela, teething powder or homeopathic teething spray. The only thing that has seemed to help is paracetamol. We have used one bottle of Fenpaed before but I thought this was paracetamol?

Sorry, it isn't Paracetamol. It is the same as Nurofen. A teething remedy plus paracetamol is good for teething pain especially at night.
