We have just increased Jacob's dose from 10mg to 15mg (15mg only for a week) then just two days ago increased it to 20mg (split morning and evening (evening one is 30 mins before his dinner)). This was at the specialist's suggestion as Jacob has been waking up 2-4 times a night.

It is all very odd as before he was on any medication, when the reflux was worse (for his day sleeps anyway), he hardly ever used to wake up at night (though would often be restless and look like he's about to wake sometimes).

The first night we started the additional 10mg in the evening, he woke up as usual but was much worse than usual, but maybe it was something he ate (or I ate - I'm breastfeeding still), as last night he only woke twice and both times he woke he wasn't as bad as he usually is (but still showing signs of reflux), and tonight he has woken twice so far and it was similar to last night. So too early to say really if the increase to 20mg is improving things (15mg didn't seem to improve anything).

So I was just wondering if anyone knows if it takes a while (and how long?) to get better results when you increase the dose of Losec.

I have also been thinking, maybe the reflux at night isn't the sole reason why he is waking at night, as he is 23 months and I have read that around 2 years of age many children can have nightmares and some can develop a fear of falling asleep (he definately seems to have the latter - though very tired at bedtime he consistently stands up again asking for more cuddles). Also he might be teething (can't see any molars yet but the teething starts before then doesn't it?). So I have been thinking maybe some of these other things are happening and therefore making it more likely for him to wake up, and if it was just reflux then maybe he wouldn't wake up. Sometimes I just feel like giving up (when trying to figure out the reason for his waking), especially as my husband seems so disinterested in the problem!

He's just had his first lot of blood tests today so I am hoping that will show up something...
