Hi smile

I don't post much on OT so if you don't "recognise" me that's why!

We are moving to Christchurch at the end of March as my husband has a new job up there.

We are wanting to rent a property and just thought I would see if anyone knew of anyone who has a rental property that might be available.

We are looking around the NW suburbs or possibly around Cashmere, maybe Halswell. His job is based in Sumner but I am not keen to live out there so we are factoring in a 30 min drive for him to get to work.

Will also be looking for some new friends so wondered if you have EBB meet-ups???

Sorry I can't help with rental info but a few of us ladies live in Halswell or nearby suburbs, it is a great area to live wink

We do have a regular coffee group plus the occasional dinner out. Let us know closer to you moving to Chch and we can add you to our PM. All the best with your move smile

yes

Um... I would think that Halswell would be more than a 30 minute drive to Sumner in peak traffic - but then NW would be even further. Maybe have a look around Cashmere as you say (but not on the hills). Beckenham is nice and the Somerfield area where Shipmate lives.

If ya take the back route to Summer though you would be fine - port hills road.
Are you looking for schools in Zone??

Spreydon, Beckenham, Cashmere HoonHay, Halswell, St Martins, Opawa is all nice smile
And all got good schools

www.rentwell.co.nz might have some places, also have a look on TM as there are still a few on there to rent, not as many as there used to be of course, but i think still about 800 homes around chch

Thanks smile

Yep been looking on TM but more at NW places as that is the area I am most familiar with. Great to get suggestions of other suburbs.

I am trying to get a look at a place in Hoon Hay tomorrow (we are coming up for the day) and I wasn't really sure what the area was like so good to hear that it is okay.

Schools are important - my eldest is 6 and we'd like a good school for him and if possible to be within walking distance.

HiJinx - we were on same MTB board - I had Lily smile

I do know of a house coming up next month, it is actually my family home which my brother has just bought off my mum. It's in Avonhead though so a fair hike from Sumner, PM me if you want more info. My mum is still living there so if you wanted to have a look through it probably wouldn't be too much of an issue.

My neighbour works in Sumner and lives in Spreydon, it's a 20-25 minute commute for her. She's driving against the traffic so it's not too bad.

Totally agree with this. Just the other end of my street is in a completely different category shocked

Thanks for that Lisa... we did think it might be an advantage going against the traffic. DH will also be starting early as he is a sparky so hopefully the commute won't be too bad.

I have been checking places on landcheck. Basically only looking at green grey and yellow - does that sound right??

Some green-blue is fine too but it would pay to do your homework before agreeing to move into blue . Half of my street is blue so sometimes it's just a garden fence that separates blue from yellow
