My 4 y/o daughter had a gastroscopy last year which confirmed her reflux, but nothing else. She had the standard biopsies done of her bits and pieces, but they showed nothing. Her reflux is well controlled on losec, and we're just going to revisit it in a year at SS.

Just spit balling for ideas about her food issues. When she was weaned onto the bottle, she couldn't tolerate either soy or dairy. I put her on partially hydrolysed formula which wasn't the best, but she managed with it. She's now on rice milk which is fine. I've even tried her on buffalo milk (which a nutritionist I met said was the closest available animal milk to breast milk) and that was a no go. She had horrible tummy aches with that.

Anywaaaaaaayyyyy... for the last year or so she's been going of meat. Particularly red meat. She's begining to refuse mince altogether over the last few weeks (before she'd take a few bites). She's come up clear on RAST tests to milk and soy allergy in the past. But I wonder if she's got some sort of protien intolerance. Let me say that she adores cheese, and seems to eat it with no dramatic issues - go figure!

Anyway, I just wanted to throw it out there, see if anyone can go "ding ding ding - I've had some experience with that!".

Just a sideways thought - and truly is left field because I'm sure you've thought of it but...what else do you generally serve the meat with? Have you tried the mince or other meat totally straight (really boring and I'm not sure any self-respecting 4 yr old would eat dead plain mince!)?

I'm just wondering if she's reacting to something that goes with the meat and has somehow linked meat and pain instead of the real offender?

I'm remembering the latest thing Thomas reacts to - fresh tomato but he was having it diced with avocado and he went off the avocado totally but didn't stop the tomato. We worked really hard, separated both foods out repeatedly and each time avocado by itself wasn't a problem by tomato and he's throwing himself on my knee saying "Mummy I don't know why but my tummy hurts, I feel sick..." He's 6 so it was easier to isolate things - that and he comes out in a rash on his lower back and buttocks when he's eaten stuff he shouldn't!

FWIW we did get him back to avocado too and he's got the best reasons in the world not to trust foods!

Or some plain beef aria farm chips? Might be more appealing.

And is she eating normal cheese but can't tolerate cow's milk? I think that might indicate a lactose intolerance. Pepti-juior doesn't have lactose in it, so the body has to get used to it gradually again. You could try adding in small amounts of milk to her rice milk and see if she tolerates that.

She had tests done for lactose intolerance while they were doing her gastroscopy. Can the intolerance present further down in the bowel, but not in the duodenum?

I have no idea about the gut testing for lactose intolerance - sorry.
