Ive got an appt at the hairdresser tomorrow to go platinum blonde (well at this stage she is going to do very heavy blonde foils and then add to that eventually).

However, I know the maintenance is going to be huge! Like retouch the roots every 4 weeks kinda thing...

So my question is has anyone had or currently got platinum blonde hair and can you/do you do your roots at home with home bleach kits etc? How does it turn out?

At least you can always go darker if you don't get used to it!

Haven't been platinum, but have been pretty blonde (see wedding pic) and I always did it myself with an at home colour. I imagine that plat is a bit harder, as you would want to be sure it didn't go too brassy.

Do we have any hairdressers on here?

same as Fel I've been really blonde but not quite platinum and yep i did at home root re-touches and even that cost quite a lot of $$ as needed quite a good blonde to a-look after your hair and b-not go brassy smile nothing worse than dark re-growth with blonde hair.

good luck bet you'll look awesome. remember to take b4 and after pics smile smile

Zebra stripe? Nice rofl

The hairdresser did say that the less regrowth you have the better a home touch up job would be.

I'm quite blonde and I get the foils re-done at the hairdresser every six weeks. It costs me $190 for a cut and colour. Definitely worth it.

when my hair was platinum I would touch up using salon supplies. Ie powder bleach, a cream developer and then toner. Never found a boxed dye that worked.

If you are getting foils I wouldn't try it at home! I've gone from quite dark to very blonde over the last 2 years and have only braved trying it myself once and I was sooooo disappointed. I pay $120 to do my hair every 6 - 8 weeks and its money well spent I'd say!

I bottled out rofl

I ended up going darker rather than lighter... I think it looks good... Less maintenance anyway.

I would have had to go in every 4 weeks to get the roots done if I'd gone blonder so I chose to go a light mahogany colour instead. I can always do the blonde thing later if I want to...
