Such a transformation!!!! Love it MM, especially as it is a smaller space - all the silly mags do these massive bathrooms and it is so hard to visualise how good a smaller space can look when done up.

Wow, that looks great - what a difference! Love how you've kept the colourful shower curtain too. It must be so lovely to use now.

We renvoted a year or so ago, knocking out a wall to join up the separate toilet and bathroom, which gave us room for a bath rather than a shub.
From this:

To this:

It cost about $6k all up I think. We saved money by not tiling the floor (painted the floorboards black instead, which looks quite funky) and doing all the building and electrical work ourselves (DH is an electrician). Apart from the plumber, the most expensive part was easily the TAPWARE. We didn't have a huge range to choose from bc we were after a very definite 'look', but even normal stuff is quite pricey.

(Oh my god it's hard to photograph a small room!! Anyone else noticed this? giggle )

Painting the floor is a great idea. We have no carpet or lino and were just going to go with polish timber throughout, but the paint is a great look too!

for everyone who painted walls - roughly how much did it cost?

originally we were going to move out of this house and closer to a school we liked before F is 5, but thats next year, and doing that means taking on a giant mortgage that would leave us little room for anything else yada yada yada... so in the bigger picture in terms of what we want our future to be, we've decided to stay put. BUT, we have a toilet, decent sized bathroom and normalish sized ensuite to deal to - previous owners had a thing for peach and roses so they, uh... leave a lot to be desired. i'm trying to draw up a rough budget but i have NO idea how much we would need to spend on paint and trying to get my dh to work out things like that is like getting blood from a stone - are we talking, like, hundreds, or thousands?

I love the painted floor La Nina it looks great.

MM your bathroom makeover looks fantastic, just changing the colours makes the room look so much bigger & the new fittings look great.

Not sure how to upload photos onto here so I cant post any photos of my bathroom from NZ but we gutted and rebuilt that. We also had a shub and a shower so we took out the wall between the bathroom & toilet so we could get a bath & shower in there. We tiled the whole room and did a tiled shower (not a shower cubicle thingie) it had a tiled floor and a curtain. It was great when I had a broken leg giggle

Lovely bathroom transformations!!!

I like the older look of your bathroom LN, tapware is lovely.

Paint isn't that expensive in the grand scheme of things if you do it yourself. I think you could easily do it for about $500 or less if those rooms aren't too big.

Teacup - paint is pretty cheap! You may not need to do an oilbased undercoat like we did on bare gib, I think that was $120 for a tin that did a single coat on 12m2. The top coat is Resene Spacecoat with an added mould inhibiter and was $60 for 4L which will do 2 coats on 12m2 (we do get a discount at Resene though). But it's hundreds, not thousands, and a good cheap update.

Like Wuz said, $500 would probably be a fair estimate - even cheaper if you can find some mis-tints that you like the look of. I wish we had thought of mistints before we painted the lounge as I didn't NEED a specific colour. Oh well.

It looks great La Nina! Love that you have kept the 'old look' in your home. I dont actually remember your bathroom - so it cant have been that bad! But it looks lovely. Love the painted floors.

We couldnt preserve our floorboards in our villa home - they were pretty rotten. So went for lino. Dont particularly like it tho!

We did our bathroom a year ago - gutted it and started again. Probably cost about $8000 all up using FIL who works in plumbing as a contact in getting our shower/bath/vanity cheap and a builder friend. Tiling was expensive, but he did a fabulous job and he was recommended as one of the best in town.

Here are our before & after:

Dream Weaver, I rung Akl council as that is who we are under and they told me I did not need a permit as we weren't changing anything structurally. We're pulling out a bath/basin/toilet and tiling in a shower/putting a new basin/toilet. So she said all we need to do is keep the certifications from the plumber/tiler/electrician etc.

If we were knocking out a wall, then yes we would have had to apply for a permit.

Teacup, we've roughly estimated that our bathroom will be around $200-$300 to paint our bathroom and that is using the special gib sealer stuff as the walls are old and need a bit of covering up.

Looks great Jewel. The basin you've used in the bathroom is the style we have decided we like grin
