Lately our 2 year old has been put onto 20mg of Omniprezole form his 10mg dose and I have been slowly weaning him off his 150mg dose of Ranitidine. We are now down to half that and this weekend realised he was doing really well and thought that a bit of sleep training was in order. Thought there would be lots of screaming so off loaded the 2 older ones but it didn't happen.
We have gone from sleeping with us or me sleeping with him waking every 15 min -1hr all night crying to waking twice and going straight back to sleep when I covered him up and put his dummy in. After all this time could it have been the Ranitidine that was causing us problems and not the reflux and the reflux was actually under control? Or a total co-incidence? We have also had a huge language spurt and eating is heaps better. I don't want to party too early but it is all good signs. What side effects could have caused him so much pain/ discomfort? I know that head aches is one but I know he would have been able to show that to me. He has been on it since 6 weeks and been off it only once for about 2 months when we tried omniprezole by itself for a while.
Any one had any side effects?

Amy - I can't remember off the top of my head but if you check out Medsafe that'll give you a list of possible side effects but I do know that many of the side effects are similar to what you are treating anyway - antinausea meds that have nausea as a possible side effect etc.

Who knows if time has helped or if it's the ranitidine?
Language surge might be helped by more sleep too?
So often it's hard to untangle exactly what's helped where - guess you could go back to the ranitidine and see if he gets worse??! Joking really! grin

Glad you've found some kind of an improvement after all!

Ohh interesting- I have been starting to wonder whether some of our problems may in fact be caused by ranitidine- I have a thread a few under this one where I have talked about it yes
