Am sure there is at least one thread on this somewhere but can't get search whosamawhatsit to find it for me.
How do you label your kids clothes for school/creche/daycare/life?
Have seen iron on labels but am dubious about they stickability and i don't sew so that's not an option. Vivid?
TIA

vivid is awesome. I have hand me downs labelled by friends wth vivid and it is still clear as anything 1 million washes later.
Some schools (daycare not so much) you have to be a little more careful with uniforms, as people actually do cut tags off clothes when the name is written on them! A lot of people in schools I have worked in have used vivid on seams, or insides of hems, where there isa bit more thickness of fabric.
I did get a bulk lot of labels for a bargain from one of the grabone sites in January, and have to order them soon. I figured that they were so cheap it was worth taking a chance on the clothing iron on ones...I know some people have had a great result with iron on ones, but not sure which brand.

Vivid here, we have dark uniforms though so it doesn't show through, a tip from an older mum friend of mine, I just wish there was white vivid for marking black shoes. Tulips, I bought one of those gold markers and that works ok on the black shoes. It does wear off over time though, so needs a repeat every now and then.

I've used iron on labels from Stuck on You for labeling DD1's jackets, sweatshirts and cardigans for school and for the most part they are staying on well.
DD2 has just started kindy and I couldn't be naffed ironing on labels, so I've just used a vivid on the labels. I hardly named anything when DD1 was at kindy as she was really good at putting her clothes in her bag, but DD2 will be the child to lose things, so I've named pretty well everything.
Shoes, I just use a black vivid but the only problem is the ink sweats off onto their feet and socks, so I need another solution.

Write it on the side of the roman sandal/shoe, not where the foot goes...

We have DS's winter shoes labelled with twink on the outside It probably does look a wee bit odd but then he was starting school, only five and a million other children dressed exactly the same we figured the social death risk was fairly small. We might not get away with it when he is 14

I got a pack from stuck on you and it is fab. Has stretchable iron-on labels and have used all uniform for a year last year with none coming off at all. Part of the pack is sticky labels which I put on his lunchbox etc and you also get shoe dots which is a round label with a clear one to go on top and you stick that inside their shoes. Love it

i vivid - as the sticky on labels can easily be taken off if someone takes your clothing. i vivid usually on the tag or the inside collar -depending on the type of top (so easy for the kids to recognise - at a school with uniform) then i also do it on the inside seem - so if it goes missing its easier to determine/ppl often dont check there just cross out the name on the collar/remove tag etc. we're at a great school but I have still found DS $65 polar fleece labelled with another childs name and the tag removed - the cheek of some parents eh.

I'm not worried about the kids pointing and laughing aspect, more that my children's kindy/school shoes are also their "going out" shoes (no uniform), so I'd be reluctant to write on the outside. To me, shoes should be named on the inside. They'll just have to put up with marks from pen/vivid on the inside of their feet for the time being.

We use a vivid or fabric marker to label clothes too. For shoes, I write their name on the underneath sole (in front of the heel IYKWIM). It does eventually wear off, so I just write it again

For daycare I write in vivid on the clothes tag....
School uniform we get the surname embroidered onto the clothing - for shirts/fleece on the back of the collar (so it shows when you're wearing it) and with the pants on the pocket flap. Shoes are the hardest - especially when there are heaps of kids with the same shoes. DP sometimes gets the soldering iron out and melts part of the sole into initials or surname.... depends on the type of shoe though.
