Hi my 17months old daughter recently suffering from gastro viral infection, now she's also having nappy rash due to frequent diarrhea, she screams everytime i change her diaper.

my question is if anyone has ever used 0.1% locoid lipocream for nappy rash treatment? I should really ask my GP, but since its long weekend now, I just want to seek advise first. thanks

At work we only ever prescribed locoid for eczema, dermatitis orpsoriasis and my boss (a doc) always prescribe Micreme for nappy rash.

I've used micreme in the past and it's usually cleared the nappy rash up within a couple of days. You can buy it over the counter at the pharmacy.

Why don't you give the Plunket/Health line a call I'm sure they'd be happy to help.

I found some stuff on medsafe about locid - doesn't say anything about use in nappy rash.

Hydrocortisone shouldn't be used on broken skin and if it's that irritated it's probably broken. Usually I would try Micreme (not Micreme H), zinc and castor or bepanthan. Failing that and it's getting worse, doctor.

I'd try zinc and castor oil cream (you can get it from the supermarket if you like, Sudocreme is one brand) and if it doesn't clear in a day or two then try Micreme which is antifungal in case its thrush. She needs a good covering of something to stop her skin from getting more inflamed so something thick like zinc and castor oil can help do that.

You could also try using cloth wipes to wipe her bottom as sometimes the chemicals in disposable wipes can irritate the skin and you could also try dipping her bottom in water with some baking soda added to help sooth it.

tea tree oil in her bath,(about 8-10 drops) followed by good barrier cream (bepathan was by far the best) and heaps of kitchen cornflour over top to soak up mosture...........worked for us after 6 months of nappyrash hell and every cream, prescription on the market. oh and like above, we used coths soaked in container of water with couple drops of teatree oil and used these as wipes...teatree oil is both antifungal and bacterial and a healer..

how's it going? We had really bad nappy rash this time last year, it was awful. Only thing that worked was powder, dactozin over top then a thick layer of bepanthan (blue tube) over top of that. We'd tried micreme H, micanazole, clotramazole, another very harsh thing that made it worse... it went on a nd on until I stoppped using stuff that was prescribed. Dactozin is great as very thick and zincy so stays on for a while.
