Hi I have posted this in general health too.

I have been on antidepressants since Jan 2011, for post natal depression and anxiety.

I have found during this time I have tried extremely hard to lose the last 6kg of baby weight, my diet is good, I keep under a certain amount of calories, I exercise a lot, doing all the right things that should help you lose weight. But I keep just bouncing, going down a kg, up a kg, down a kg, and so on.

I have heard that being on anti depressants can affect this. Has anyone had any joy losing weight while on antidepressants? Or do I need to accept that as long as I'm on them it might be hard? I don't want to blame the pills for it but I really have tried very very hard. I should have been able to lose more than 1kg and keep it off...

I'm not really ready to go off them yet. I used to be on loxamine, now Im on citalopram- I could lose a bit on loxamine but not much at all on citalopram

Heya, there is a new AD called Escitalopram which is just a concentrated form of Citalopram but doesn't carry any of the side effects Citalopram does like weight gain etc. The only catch is you have to have tried two different ADs before you can go on it but you have so have a chat to your doctor about it smile

Thanks CharliDaisi yes I have been on 2 now, so I should be ok to try that. I did go on citalopram in order to make it easier to withdraw from antidepressants, as the loxamine I was on had hideous withdrawls but now Im on citalopram I feel quite good so Im not sure Im ready to withdraw. So its good to know there might be something else

I am on efexor and I was continually told it was hard/impossible to lose weight on anti-depressants. I was told that efexor wont put on weight like the others did to me, but it did. I really think it is an individual thing, what does for someone wont for another. I have lost 6kgs slowly and I am sure it is slower for those on ads but I do think it is achieveable. I am not sure swapping ads is a good decision for weightloss. I tried this and it didn't work for me at all.
