Hi there I just want to ask about my almost one month old - we have issues with food - I think dairy gluten tested postive on skin test for egg, and also senstive to salicylates and amines I think -0- but very ahrd to wor out
ANway we are both on very restriceted diet - I am still breast feeding
Currently he is having problems again with wind/tummy symptoms and ezcema on his face - gets very red adn itchy

What Im wondering is am I right in assuming beacuse we are having both skin and tummy symptoms it is more likely to be food related than environmental?
I have started using landy balls- which are meant to be good for senstive skin and have now got a kitten but also trying some new foods - only millet and few beans for sam and I started cashews nuts a coupld of weeks ago and have just stopped again to see if he improves

oh its so hard working it out and feel so helpless when he is awake every 2 hours itchy and sore

love to hear what others think
thanks

Hi amandaandmike, who got tested for the skin prick test? Was it you? I wouldn't think docs would do SPT for a one month old?
If you suspect so many things I would try & see an allergy specialist to get proper confirmation, especially if you already have a restricted diet, you don't want to be removing things from your diet that you really don't need to just on suspicion. You need as much as you can get while BF. But if you are both having tummy issues then sounds like food rather than environmental but its hard to say....
It sounds quite tricky, poor wee bubba having such itchy skin frown I've heard the laundry balls are quite good. Have you thought about dust mites as well if he is so itchy? Do you have dust mite covers on the cot?
What sort of creams are you using for his skin? Has the doctor given any emulsifying creams? You can use them as a soap sub as well. And wet wraps might help if he is waking so much & not sleeping, although at only 1 month waking every 2 hours is quite normal anyway.
grouphug Hope you find some answers soon

Suche I think she means 1 YEAR old? because she talks about intro to foods? But I agree that it sounds like it might be food related due to the wind etc. And I agree that good management of the eczema is just as important as identifying the trigger - it seems to me that even if the trigger is under control the eczema won't resolve with out the right creams and management of other triggers - eczema is very exhausting at times. Hope you work out some answers soon.

Hi
SOrry yes I did mean 1 year.
We are talking to Dr Masson who has been great and arranged teh skin prick tests
I thought food related as well but just checking as soo hard...
Yes we have HealthE Fatty cream which I put on a lot at the moment - the ezcema is mainly his face and nack - so good a small area... It comes up and goes down to often better in the morning but recently have had bad nights again ???
Skin pricks showed allergy to Egg, Dr Masson recomended RPAH elmination diet adn have tried dairy and wheat again with poor results....
We will get there though

hi - have you considered seeing a dietician? Dr Masson recommended Gina Wilson to us who helped hugely - this could help quite a lot with your diet too as it can be sooo hard breastfeeding and eliminating foods but sooo worth it. hugs to you and good luck grouphug

Thanks yes I have been thinking more about talking to her - she should be back from leave soon. Initally Dr Masson thought we wouldnt need to - but..... just keeps getting harder
I have talked to dieticians here - in Timaru but they are anti food causing problems like this (as are all the health professionals down here) and just push to get him eating everything...
Glad to hear she was helpful for you
We have made big progress since talking to Dr Masson but still getting there...and yes I plan to keep on breastfeeding but be much better for both of us to be eating more smile

Hey Thanks Mushroom Magee we spoke with Gina this week.
Sam has improved a lot skin wise after further reducing our diet - removing pears, cashews, lentil ... - looks like very sensitive to amines as well as salicylates
but Gina feels environmental issues are tipping him over the edge and causing his windy problems - surprised us thought skin would show that kind of thing...
Has anyone used Homeopathy to treat "round up" exposure - she thinks Sam maybe very sensitive to pesticides too and the paddock next to our house was sprayed early december ....
Also both Dr Masson and Gina have suggested a stool test which is sent to Australia and costs $500 for Sam - has anyone used this and what did you think - a lot of money but then if it means we are treatinghim for the right thing it may save us too ?? love to hear from anyone who has used this service. Thanks a lot for all the help
