Has anyone tried this? Does it work? It says on the ads to put it on as soon as you feel the tingle, I don't feel any tingle when I get cold sores. I just wake up in the morning with one. Would it still work if I put it on at that later stage?
TIA

It does seem to speed up healing of them but I think the tingling instructions are designed to appeal to the paranoia of getting one so you rush out and buy it right away.
I just wake up with a blister which grows, no tingle beforehand.

I don't get the tingle either - first I know I have a cold sore coming is my jaw glands start to swell and get sore or achey!

I use zovirax anyway despite it saying to use as soon as you feel the tingling, and do find it speeds up the healing. I also take low dose voltaren at same time and find that helps even more with the pain/inflammation - seems to stop the blisters breaking open and spreading so my lips don't end up looking too horrendous!

The small tube of zovirax lasts ages as well as you only need such a time amount (don't squeeze the tube as heaps will come out and too expensive to waste!)

Thanks. I might give it a try then. I can't use voltaren SIA. Zovirax is expensive, so I didn't want to try and find it didn't work.

not sure, but some other info:
if you get them a lot taking Lysine from health shop/chemist *may* help prevent them/make it go away faster.

Also just read this in a natural magazine (haven't tried it)
"Lemon balm essential oil speeds the healing of cold sores. combine 2 drops of oil in one teaspoon of vodka and apply with a cottonbud" !!!

Vodka NS!! I have to go to the health shop and get some vit D so I'll check out the Lysine. I do get them a lot. Everytime I get a cold it's guaranteed, and stress brings them on. I use tea tree oil, not sure if it helps or not.

I used to use zovirax years ago, but it is so spensy. Instead I get a bottle of tea tree oil and apply a dab of that directly if I get the tingle or feeling that they are coming on. As effective as zovirax, if not more so - plus you can use tea tree oil for other things smile

i was surprised at the vodka too, but remembered it is a preservative I think? so some natural concoctions use it, as a base.

I use Tea tree if i'm having a paranoid tingle. But i found the one time i tried tea tree after it started coming it its grew soooo huge.
When i use Zovirix they're usually very little (is used once they first come up) and gone within a few days usually I keep a tube on hand, always wash my hands before and after putting it on and i find a tube lasts a really long time so worth the $25ish a pop! (though i do still cringe every single time i buy it! (which has been about twice in 5 years!))

Thanks everyone. I bought some. Probably too late this time, but I'll try it next time I get one.

I used to use zovirax all the time but since those patches have come out I started using them and they are way better than any cream. They are quite expensive but they actually work, just by keeping them covered it heals up so much faster & doesn't go into that sore crusty ouchy stage.
Last time I looked they have night ones & medicated ones etc, but I just get the simple ones & they do the trick.
