G really needs to move out of his moses basket but keep putting it off as we rely on rocking it so much to get him to sleep. Wondering whether we should use a safety sleep once we put him in the cot to prevent him falling under the blankets due to cot being on a tilt? We currently side sleep him too. Any thoughts?

Hi, I have my baby in a cot tilted and using a safety sleep. He likes to sleep on his side (and can roll onto his side with the safety sleep and still be safe - he can't roll right over onto his front).

Hope that helps. smile

Side sleeping isn't recommended, but yes you could use a safe-t-sleep. They are wonderful!

We used a safe t sleep in the cot with DD from the start. She w so wriggle due to reflux discomfort that bassinet didnt work for us. As she was still so small we combined the safe t sleep with a sleep wedge. DD's cot was on a real slope and the safe t sleep did stop her sliding down. The pressure on her tummy from the safe t sleep also seems to help her.

We had our daughter in a hanging bassinet and were totally reliant on rocking it to get her to sleep, and I was really concerned about how I'd get her to sleep once we moved her into the cot.

We moved to rocking her in our arms instead, upright on our shoulder using a variety of movement depending on how upset or sleepy she is - ie swaying, bobbing, pacing the room. Once she calms and falls asleep I then stand still and wait a couple of minutes before transferring her into her cot.

The transfer from arms to cot can take a few tries which is frustrating. But overall it usually takes less time to get her to sleep this way than it did by rocking the bassinet (as in it now takes average 20-30 mins to get her to sleep) and she probably sleeps for longer (ie 20-40 mins at a time for day naps). Possibly this is because getting her to sleep this way keeps her upright for longer after feeds?

We have the cot mattress at bassinet level, which helps with the transfer as we don't have to lower her down so far from arms, hold our hands on her when we first put her down or sometimes rock her gently from side to side. We also swaddle her, play white noise, and use a safety sleep.

Good luck!

Yes we used a safety sleep too with the cot on quite a serious angle and also had all mine on their side. Backs made them scream.
We used a baby hammock instead of bassinet and so had serious swinging going on but the transfer to cot was ok. Made sure we kept the routine going with music and swaddling etc.
