Hi, Just reading a few threads I have noticed that a few people have experienced reflux in their children that goes into the toddler years and beyond. I am starting to suspect that my 3 year old may not have outgrown her reflux as I thought. Here are some of the things which would describe her behaviour etc. Excessive dribbling, screaming episodes some nights and then very restless sleeping habits (tossing and turning. Highly emotional easily burst into tears and generally some days/ weeks just seems miserable unless distracted. Frequent chest infections, currently has grommets. She is currently gluten and dairy free due to intolerance's but is no longer medicated. Is this a bit far fetched?

Hi northwest. Your daughter sounds like mine at the moment with her behavior. My DD is almost 1 and having a flare up. I keep being told about these magic milestones when reflux will stop and am starting to not believe it. Will be interested in what others have to say.

Sounds just like my 4 yr old having a flare up too which we have had since xmas!

Definately sounds like it could still be a problem.

Yup def sounds like it could still be a problem.

My two eldest were off meds by 2 1/2 but in hindsight were def still refluxing and probably shouldn't have come off. They were both back on medication by 4 1/2 - 5 yrs old.
My youngest never got off meds at all until surgery at nearly 4 yrs old.

The hardest thing is, while they are miserable, they probably won't tell you they are in pain because they think everyone feels like they do. William, my eldest, had his surgery at 11 1/2 and told me he thought orange juice was supposed to hurt when you drank it - until after his surgery when it didn't any more. They just get so used to the pain it's their 'normal'.
Thomas never even laughed properly until after his surgery when he belly laughed for the first time in his life - and he was nearly 4!
So sad and hard for them!

I mentioned to my paed that I thought our 4 year old possibly still had reflux at a certain times. He agreed. My theory is that it is at such a small level now and his body is coping enough with out the meds then he is ok but I am not totally convinced you ever completely out grow it.
How long since she came off the meds? Could you do a trial to see if things improve then you will know.

Hi, she went off meds around 16months (got as high as 30mg) and then had grommets at 2. After grommets it seemed like it was the missing piece of the puzzle and was a lot better. However,as time has gone by things seemed to have started to decline. She is turning 3 at the end of feb and her dribbling, behaviour and sleeping has got progressively worse. I feel like she is fine some days but then other days are just terrible. I think that you are right. I am taking her back to my GP to discuss it and talk to her about trialing her back on losec just to see if there are any improvements. Thanks for your help. Have all of your children outgrown it now?

Just a thought for you. Grab some gaviscon. If my girls are going thru a bad patch, then a dose of infant gaviscon just before bed means they have a great nights sleep rather than a truly horrible one ..... If you give it during the day if she's having a bad patch too, and she improves within about 30 minutes, that's pretty good evidence that its the reflux playing up ....

Nope still battling on with my last, a 2 year old. Trying to reduce meds now but not holding out much hope.

Need a "like" button here like Facebook. I agree with Dolphin about Gaviscon Infant giving a clue.

How did the GP visit go?
