My 10 week old is currently on Losec (2.5mls daily) for her reflux. It has finally started working after 10 days and what a huge change/difference in her! Feeding was a nightmare and she would end up a screaming mess due to refusal but would also be starving. She is now drinking from her bottle again no problems and back to sleeping well again in the day time. However the losec is making her constipated so now she screams/cries when trying to do a bowel motion and pushes out small pebbles! Poor thing, I was so happy for her as she seemed be turning a corner with her reflux and now she seems miserable with a sore tummy. She is currently on Karicare Goats formula which has been great for her as she also suffered from terrible wind/gas and this has helped relieve this. (Tried S26 and Nestle Nan HA Gold) Any advice on what to do about the constipation? I don't want to stop the losec or change formula but don't know what to do. I am currently giving her coloxyll drops to try and get things going as well as giving her cooled boiled water in between feeds. I also had her on infants friend when she was on previous formula which helped with wind and I heard helps make babies regular. I am not sure whether I should go back to giving her some more of this? Any suggestions/tips or advice?

I found Ranitidine worked better for my kids and has similar effect. Though others say it gives their kids constipation also. I see form the 2.5 ml that she is on the suspension so maybe you could try the granules? Just a suggestion but not from experience. Hope she feels better soon.

Beck, its lovely when the losec starts working isn't it, but constipation sucks. My DD didn't get constipated with losec (for her it did the opposite to start with before settling down to normal). She did suffer terribly from constipation when we were on the gaviscon and it is so horrible. We did the brown sugar in water trick, never tried the coloxyl drops but that was going to be my next step, that or see the GP once again for something (I would imagine you are frequent visitor to the GP like me). The other thing that we did that helped somewhat was tummy massage to try and help it all move through, and the good old cycling of the legs, again to try and move it through. We don't have a bath but it was also recommended to me the warm bath while massaging. Hope you manage to get things moving for your DD.

DD1 got constipated from losec also, DD2 didn't. With DD1, I tried lots of different things (the brown sugar in water worked quite well, would give to her when she woke at night before giving her bottle and she'd poo the next day - can't do this every day though). Lactulose I never found particularly good but others find that works well. In the end we used Iberogast drops - we'd give them 3x per day (very small amounts) when needed and by the next day there would be a result. We didn't need to use everyday but they were used quite frequently. We also watered down the formula a little. And, once on solids, gave pear daily and then other fruits but extra fruit didn't really help.

I'd actually suggest you try Weleda Digestodoron though - is cheaper than the Iberogast and I've heard it works well. Weleda is a really good brand too.

Our constipation issues didn't resolve until she went off losec.

My daughter got badly constipated from losec when she was young too. Brown sugar and water and lactulose helped her, coloxyl drops didn't work for her at all. I found we needed to just try the different things available until we found one that worked. Good luck.

My two have also suffered from constipation. I tried what Wuz suggested , the digestodoron by weleda and found it fantastic. You can also try prune juice with water 50/50 . I gave my my first born that at 12 weeks under the advice of my paed..

Lactulose tends to be more effective. Be careful with fruit juices as they are acidic and may aggravate reflux pain. The other suggestions are all good. Probiotics may also be of help.
