Love trifle!!!

I make it the most basic way usually.

You need older sponge.
Spread it with red jam, (optional sprinkle a little bit of sherry on it). layer it over fruit salad in the bottom of a steep glass sided dish.
Then pour a red jelly on top of it.
Then a layer of custard
Then top with cream.

But I've made some variations before, using berries instead of fruit salad and a chocolate sponge and with chocolate custard and then top the cream with flake.

Use sponge roll cut into slices and make sure it shows nicely in spirals at the side.

Use just peaches and blueberries as fruit.

Use strawberries and cooked apple and passionfruit pulp.

I just love trifle, used to have to make it heaps when I worked at a hospital kitchen.

Mine is similar to Clems. I slice strawberries and arrange them in and around a trifle bowl (also add raspberries sometimes). Then I spread Saviordi/lady finger biscuits all over with strawberry jam, and arrange them in the bowl. I pour just enough raspberry jelly in to barely cover the sponges. Once that has set I make my own custard and layer that on top. Then whipped cream with a little sugar and vanilla.

Jelly is a big no no in posh trifle, but I like it - reminds me of being a kid!!
