We have a recipe thread running here but we also have a recipe section. If you add a new recipe you might like to post the name and link to it in this thread.
See the next message in this thread for the address of our new recipe area.

I have just added to the buckwheat pancake recipe how to use coconut cream as the milk component of the pancake recipe and as cream to serve on them for a gluten free, dairy free option: http://reflux.cryingoverspiltmilk.co.nz/recipes/index.php?view=14
We had these for tea tonight with the coconut cream and they were great. Now I need to top up my buckwheat and maple syrup supplies.

Chocaholics Cheesecake Muffins These are gluten free but it is a normal recipe adapted. I think they will work with any gluten free flour mix and can be dairy free, and possibly egg free.
They are really good. My husband is raving about them.

POSSIBLE PIZZA BASE -
I made the Buckwheat Pancakes last week (not the coconut cream version though as didn't have any in the cupboard) and Jacob loved them (and so did I!). Just thought I'd mention that I had an idea that you could make these slightly thicker and use these as a pizza base (might have to cook them further in the oven so they harden more). I haven't tried it yet though, as couldn't think of what to put on as pizza topping (I am pretty sure Jacob has a problem with tomato based foods).

This won't work with the buckwheat pancakes but have a look at the Foccocia Style Pizza recipe. It doesn't have any tomato.
Everyone - it would be great to see something other than "submitted by Roz" down the left hand side of the recipe section. We would love to see your favourite recipes - allergy friendly or not - especially with Christmas fast approaching.

Oh, we also do pizzas with apricot sauce and chicken breast. Mum used to make one with cream corn instead of tomato on the base.

Oh, pity about the Buckwheat Pancake recipe not feasible for a pizza base - I knew there was a reason for why I don't spend much time in the kitchen (too many experiments gone wrong!).
Oh great about the Foccocia Pizza - I thought there was tomato in the chilli sauce. Will have to give that one a go then (no excuses now!).
Thanks Roz for the other ideas for pizza toppings too, and for ALL those recipes you have entered in the recipe section.

I was meaning that the foccocia style pizza won't work with the buckwheat pancakes - the other toppings I mention might. In the Edmonds book there is a recipe for a chicken mixture rolled up in pancakes. This uses tomato but it could be replaced with gravy, and then they have cheese sprinkled on top and are baked. Just another idea to make a meal out of the pancakes.
My eldest is allergic to tomato so has chilli sauce. I think those pizzas could be made without the chilli sauce if you wanted.

Sorry for the late question (so close to Christmas now..) but just wondering if anyone has a Gluten-free biscuit recipe (preferably dairy-free too, but I can always substitute the butter with olivani) that is suitable for Xmas tree decorations (so it needs to be a fairly hard biscuit).
I did attempt to make some gingernut stars yesterday, but it was a normal recipe and I just replaced the butter with olivani and the flour with Simple baking mix. I thought about adding Xanthum gum but noticed there was guar gum in the baking mix so I didn't bother. They taste good and are definately hard enough to hang on the tree (I put holes in them about 5 mins before end of baking) but they are very dry (maybe if I added X gum they wouldn't be so dry). I bought another pckt of Simple baking mix yesterday and they now have X gum in there - I wonder if my biscuits would've worked out better using this baking mix.

Hi Roz - I have been browsing the recipe area and have had some issues. When you get to the second or more page of the listings and look at a recipe it returns you to the first page of the listing when you go back from the recipe you are looking at. I also looked at one recipe (Caramel something) that didn't have the recipe, just what looked like a link that didn't work. If I get time I will let you know of other recipes that don't have the right info. Also I think it would be a worthwhile exercise to look at making the recipes more uniform for what they are 'free' of. Soy for example is a good one that probably could be used more.

I see what you mean by the returning to page one of the index. The Easy Caramel Microwave Popcorn's address is correct if you copy and paste it into the browser address bar but not hyperlinked. I've emailed the database designer about these but she is down here on holiday currently. The recipe area is by no means complete so it is good to get some feedback.
As for the soy part: I'm not entirely sure what you mean. I have marked everything that is soy free as soy free I think but to truly be soy free they need to not have used Horley's gluten free flour mix or margarine. Most soy allergic individuals are okay with oils eg margarine but some like to be different (ah, Gem?). So most recipes can be either soy free or dairy free depending upon whether you use marg or butter, as long as they don't use Horley's gluten free flour or a breadmix containing soy also. Was that what you are meaning?
I think comments are coming next so then you will be able to comment directly on the recipe. Don't feel scared to as I have added them all so far as they are not all mine - I just moved them over.
Please let me know of any others that don't seem entirely correct and I will correct if possible. The shortbread is good at this time of year, as it isn't as sweet as some of the treats and a little more filling. We still have some in the tin.

Thanks for that Roz. I was meaning that some of the recipes could be 'soy free' as in using Olivani but then it has Soy Lecithin so yeah, not completely soy free.

When Gem was one year old there was a soy free margarine. There was also a soy, dairy and gluten free dessert - like dairy foods.
I've started another sticky thread that you can put comments on about Soy like the Olivani.

Roz, I made the Shortbread Christmas eve and they turned out fab (sprinkled Joyline mini flavoured decorations on top too). I was a bit worried though about them turning out ok, as I couldn't get hold of the Horley's stuff so used Simple baking mix instead. The mixture was very dry so I added a tiny bit more marg and a bit of water. It was still dry so I ended up having to press the mixture (rather than rolling it, as this would make it crumble). I did end up cooking mine for longer too, but in the end they turned out well and Jacob loves them.
So many thanks for the recipe Roz!!!
P.S. I hope your batch still turned out ok with the reduced flour!

The original recipe said to add extra marg, or flour if it was too dry or wet. The problem with Simple baking mix is it contains sugar.
Ours turned out fine with reduced flour and I have just eaten the last one. I have brown sugar shortbread now in the fridge to go into the oven soon. This isn't a recipe you roll out though.
Please rate the recipe. I won't be offended.
I met the person who is doing the recipe part of the website yesterday and we discussed the issues you found Viv so they should be sorted some time soonish.

Dairy Free 'ice cream'!

Just thought I would share this idea that my mum told me about and I finally tried it tonight and my DD just loved it. We have given her the occassional soy icecream but it is so full of sugar and other stuff that we wanted to try and limit her intake of that this idea is so much better and healthier.

Peel a banana and wrap in gladwrap, put in the freezer until frozen then remove and defrost a little bit so that you can chop the banana into pieces and blend. It sounds a bit odd but strangely even goes creamy. Definitely worth a shot for those with dairy allergies!

We did that with a tin of pears . Looks and tastes great doesn't it? Didn't think to use banana. I think you can just freeze in the skin without peeling it as well.

I have also made choc shortbread by adding some cocoa to the mix, smelled divine and is being eaten at a fast pace.

Glad the shortbread is going down well. Here are a couple more or my creations. Actually I truly did create these and they are so simple. Don't be fooled by the names. They are either dairy free or should adapt very easily.

Jelly Ice-cream

Creamy Apricot Chicken

It has been great to see the shortbread has been rated twice. However, I don't see any new recipes there that I haven't added. I wonder if anyone has something they want to make but don't have a recipe for it? - like the gluten free shortbread. Please place your requests here and hopefully someone will be able to help by posting it in our recipe section.

Update on this area:
Recipes can be added by any member of Crying Over Spilt Milk and membership is quick and easy
Recipes can be rated
Comments appear to be functionable but we need someone to try them out
Search is working but we haven't added the function where you can search within gluten free recipes etc yet
The problems highlighted are in the process of being sorted

We have another project in mind that seems more exciting so the recipe area will be modified more later when there are more recipes and it is more neccessary. \:\)

Hi Roz,

I am doing a bit of a baking binge again and looking through the recipe secion - it still kicks you back to the first page of recipes when you view and then go back from a recipe on page 2 etc.

Also, looking for a dairy, soy, gluten free choc chip biscuit recipe. My friend made some the other day and Katey ate 3 of them! Any ideas anyone? I think she used the simple baking mix, Pam's choc chips, olivani and rice milk. Must of added in some sugar too? Might just have a crack at making some myself.

A tip for the shortbread - roll into a cylinder shape, wrap in gladwrap and pop into the fridge for about 30 minutes, then remove gladwrap and slice pieces off the roll for cooking.

Viv- you still looking for a recipe for choc chips? I have one that would suit. Yummy!

Anyhow

yeast free hi-fibre bread

Bread keeps in airtight container in fridge for about 4 days. I freeze ours but we usually use it up in that time anyhow.

Play with cooking times. my first 3 loaves were perfect but the tops have been a bit crumbly since. I think I may shorten cooking time.

Even though a long list, it takes about 10 minutes to prepare and then in oven. We really like it.

2/3 cup of following: potato flour, cornflour, white rice flour, soy flour.

1/3 cup of gluten free substitute (or xanthan or guar gum 2-3t),
1.5T baking powder
1/2t salt

1/3 cup polenta but I have also used fine cornmeal
2T linseeds (flax seeds)
2T coarsely ground sunflower seeds
2T sesame seeds

1 egg and 1 egg white
1/3 cup olive oil
2 c water

prepare loaf tin. I just use non stick spray without any worries

Sift flours, gf substitute (or gums), baking powder, salt into large bowl. Stir in polenta, and all seeds and make well in centre

Whisk together egg, egg white and oil. Gradually add with water to dry ingredients to make soft batter. Put in loaf tin and bake at 180 C or 350F for 55-60 minutes or until risen, golden and cooked when tested with skewer (which may be slightly sticky).

Set aside to cool in pan for 30 minutes then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.

Hi Rachel
When you have time, can you add the recipe to our recipe section:
http://reflux.cryingoverspiltmilk.co.nz/recipes
That way others can rate it and add comments.
Thanks Viv for the comments. We still have it on the to do list but this is beyond my capability and the other website manager has been a bit busy. We will get there.

Hi,
Just a quick question. I am new to label reading. Our Olivani seems to contain soy and so does our Bakel's gluten free flour! Ugh, everything seems to contain soy.
Is it just traces? Some of the soy free recipes contained either ingredient. Thanks!

What did you figure out? Olivani contains soy oil as do all margerines I think at the moment. Soy oil is not generally a problem for those allergic to soy as it contains no protein. My Gem was one of the 5% it is a problem for.
