I'm back again for some ideas on getting my dd to take losec. I'm so tired of my nightly routine getting up 10 times a night to a screaming 3 yr old and unable to calm her down. I think it's still reflux but havnt been able to rule it out as I can't get her to take the losec. So ive tried getting her to swallow it. I've put zgranules on a spoon with water. I've tried mixing with sprinkles which was a very bad idea as she chewed them then got upset with the taste. But that night she slept through. She doesn't drink juice so can't put it in that.

I've can't pin point anything in her diet that makes it worse. oh how I long for a decent nights sleep.

I tried yogurt but it didn't work well and apparently not best for the meds. So I buy little squirty pouches of baby puree. You could get that older kids fruit squirts instead if you like. Something sweet and put it on a spoon. Pour grandules over and top with more puree. Pop it in the mouth and give a quick drink of water to help wash it down otherwise they still crunch them. Something they do for babies but mine is 2 years old and loves the stuff ( baby food!)
Means buying 1 pouch a week but it is worth it. They can suck the rest of the pouch as you won't use it all but probably shouldn't be kept longer than that or put on yogurt or icecream as a topping

Thanks Amy, that's how she use to take it in ones of those watties puree squirt things. Unfortantly I have a very fussy kid and she won't touch them anymore, and thats when she stopped taking the losec. She also won't eat yoghurt either.

You can also get them to swallow a capsule at around this age and they might feel quite clever in being able to acheive it. Take mouthful of water and the capsule. Drop chin down to chest - the capsule floats and ends up at back top of mouth - swallow. Our paediatrician taught Gemma this. She may have been a bit older but it should be possible with a three year old.

Other than that just give them with whatever she will take them with. Something acidic is best but when all else fails just getting them in is the most important thing.

I emptied the capsule into a small amount of soft bread and shaped it into a ball for Thomas, hollowed out a small section of banana and put the meds in and re-sealed it...

Those weren't the best options and total desperation measures though, but he'd have been around 3 when we were doing that!

I believe yoghurt is not good for those with reflux so best not to use that.

Thanks ladies , what great advice. I just wish dd wasn't so fussy with food so I could hide it. She loves grapes , so I'm wondering if there is a way to hide the granules in one. So if they chew the granules, is this ok?

The granules shouldn't be chewed as it exposes the acutal Omeprazole to stomach acid which can deactivate it before it gets to the small bowel. However, even if some are chewed probably not all will be.

It is also okay to give with yoghurt if yoghurt is tolerated and the good bugs in yoghurt are beneficial to those with gut issues.

From the face my son makes when he accidently chews the grandules they taste bad! Probably not what you want your daughter to taste if you want her to take them.
