Sure I read somewhere that higher doses of Losec or the like can cause the body to not absorb the right amount of B12 from their diet. Is this true? IS that why they might be iffy about it?
Looking at increasing his Dr Reddy's dose from 10mg to 20 mg but he also takes Ranitidine 5ml twice daily.
My Dr said he would be uncomfortable with it being higher when I talked about accidental possible mis-medicating him with my husbands 20mg pills. Do you think I will need a pead to see him for this? Our Health insurance has decided it doesn't cover this ( long story) so will have to get on a list if I do.
Dairy free a no go in the end. God I thought it was a miracle for a few days. Just coincidence. Don't think slippery elm is going to help him much as it seems to runny up his poos and give him a sore bum. He has sloppy poos any how.

I don't think the B12 absorbtion is dose related. http://www.cryingoverspiltmilk.co.nz/medicaltreatment/drug-nutrientinteractions/

If a baby is less than 13 kg, a dose of 20 mg should be supervised by a paediatrician.

Thanks for that Roz. He is about 15 kg. So the B12 thing is across the board? Is it significant enough to be looking at supplements?

Hi

So according to his weight he could be on a higher dose. However, it is the doctor's decision on what he feels safe prescribing. You could ask for a second opinion - otherwise you are left with seeing a paediatrician. I'm presuming he still seems to be in pain with his reflux.

Yes, B12 absorption is affected by Omeprazole. Our paediatrician had Gem on a supplement. We just used the Healtheries Kidscare multivitamin - I should probably have her on it now actually. Our paed was happy with this and the children love the taste.
