Hi, does anyone else medicate their babies at 2.5 mg/kg or more? My b aby is responding really well to 2.5 mg/kg (15 mg , he is 6 kg).

But I've just had a nurse inform me that is "unsafe". I can't beleive it. We were at our wit's ends with his feeding, until my baby went on this increased dosage. He is now a different baby, with no signs fo side effects.

I looked up the infant dosage informationa nd I see that my baby's dosage is not considered "high" .

Really welcome input
Thanks!

Tilly - I've notified this post so Roz will notice faster.
We're not supposed to discuss weights/doses on this site as it's so medically dependant.
The Crying Over Spilt Milk site has a good chart on doses per weight and it maybe it's just higher than the nurse is used to - and what area the nurse practices in. I don't know and am not medically qualified.
Hopefully Roz can pm you.

Hi Tilly
Who put your baby on this dose?
The dose is in the high dose range and should be supervised by a specialist, but it is not dangerously high.
Thanks Eleanor.

Thanks. We are under a specialist , just don't see him that often. Baby doing so well on this high dose, and it was gradually increased, lower doses just didn't work

Specialist so far has not run any special tests for being on a high dose, should we be asking for any particular blood tests or anything? I read that Losec can interfere with Vitamin B12 absorption, for example

Thanks!

No tests are usually needed for the higher dosages especially if no symptoms are obvious. Our paediatrician did recommend a good multivite with B12 (and folic acid I think) in it. Talk to your specialist about it.

Thanks. We don't see him for a while, so was just wondering if there was anything in the meantime. Can multivitamins be given to infants? I guess I can just ask our pharmacist , there might be a liquid one smile

Thanks againf or your time, Roz! Cheers
