Art shirts over their uniforms/clothes? DS2 (7yo) came home with black paint stains all over his nearly new school shirt - it's ruined - that stuff stains and is immovable from those lovely polyester shirts sigh It really hacks me off that he didn't wear an art shirt - apparently there were only a few art shirts and he didn't get one, and most kids were painting in their uniforms. I'd have been more than happy to send a along an old shirt if I'd known they didn't have enough. It's $35 down the drain.

I always wear old clothes or an apron when doing art work - surely it's not too much to expect the same at school?

Pretty much never at any school I have been to. That said if a parent provided one, then yes, that child would wear it. Parents never do.

I know the the few I have seen wearing them they pretty much haven't done much to help keep stuff off. In fact it makes them more careless if anything. And the paint tends to go through shirts if you get a decent dollop on.

I think it is different if a class or school DOES have them though (like yours) - in that instance then I think they should ask for them to be sent at the stsart of each year, to be put into the class bag, if it is normal for them to wear them.

Also, what the heck are they using - I have seen some stuff take a few washes to get out, but pretty much it always comes out! Have you tried sunlight soap? I have heard people swear by it, for stains, the block stuff you can buy.

I don't think they do at DS's school but I'll ask. He's never come home covered in paint although looking at his pictures there is a lot of crayon/jovie/dye type stuff, not a lot of paint.

Over the years I've collected a set of old shirts (which get washed once a year giggle ) and keep them in my classroom - we did dye today and they all had to pop on a shirt first...

Some are DPs, mine or friends old shirts, some were donated by parents over the years. Works a treat!

The paint we used is 'supposed' to come out in water, but never seemed to come out of DDs!

See that's the sort of thinking I like. We all had to bring an old shirt of dad's (or mum's or grandads etc) to school for art when I was a kid.

Felicis I get your point and I must admit DS2 is pretty careless at the best of times. DS1 never seemed to have this problem - he's a tidy kiwi by nature though unlike DS2.

I don't know what they use but it stains something awful and this was black too. I've got it down to a dull dark green on the yellow shirt with sunlight soap, stain remover and soaking in nappy san. And the glue they use stains too - he ruined another shirt a couple of weeks ago that had a few small art stains on it by wiping his gluey hands all over it no not to mention the one he put a hole in with a pair of scissors. Yeah, we've had a bad run - the issue probably lies with the child more than anything!

At my kids school we all have to provide an old T-shirt when they started school at NE/Yr 1 and the kids ALWAYS wear an artshirt over their uniform. I would be so angry if my kids came home with paint or whatever on their uniform, they are not cheap! Was it Indian ink they were using? That would be impossible to come out I suppose!

You would wonder for sure if it was indian ink, yeah!

Glue? I cannot for the life of me begin to think of any glue I have ever used tht would do that.

you know what, i would go in and take the shirt to the teacher and ask her directly what they were using. Both the paint and the glue.

DS' class definitely have art shirts to put over uniforms (provided). I would be angrywife if he came home with non-removeable stains given especially that you haven't been asked to provide a shirt yourself.

Have to say though, I can't seem to stop the kids who decide to paint or dye their hands while I'm not looking (and then act like it got there by itself) lol

I've run out of fingers counting the kids who have experimented with scissors by cutting their clothes or hair or by leaning what they are cutting on their clothes and chopping a piece of of their skirt/shorts...

DD has just started school this term and we have been asked to provide an art shirt (old large tshirt)... I have been slack in finding one and she came home with a wee bit of paint on it on Wed but it sponged off ok (phew). So my mission this weekend is to find an old one of DH's and put it in her bag for Monday smile

Our kids don't even seem to paint sigh but I know the teacher has art shirts available.

I do know that good old fashioned black pallet paint is difficult to get out, as is any paint mixed with PVA glue. Most other paint is fine if sprayed with that Pink Frend.

My kids don't use art shirts, or have a uniform. But if it was me, and they got paint all over their uniform shirts, I would just send them to school in a paint-stained uniform. School's fault, why should I buy a new one.

Every child in DS school has a proper art shirt its part of the stationary order and they all were them. Because they all have one and all have to wear them nobody looks the odd one out

I also don't imagine any school would say anything if your child did come in a painty uniform.

Dont think Mr7 has art shirts at school, but Im not fussed at him painting his polo shirts. Hes a kid and a boy so hes going to get dirty. I have 2 shirts for him. Have found glue the hardest to get out, but still not fussed. If it was a mufti shirt (no school uniform), I would be the same. Kids get dirty and boys will be boys. smile

Yeah, that's really what I meant. I wouldn't care about a painty uniform, and if the school cares, they can do something about it.

Still reckon it is the school's fault. I mean, I suppose if the paint was up on a shelf, and my kid got it down when he wasn't supposed to, and was stupid with it, then it was his fault. But IME (I used to paint lots) paint always gets everywhere. So, the answer is not to paint wearing anything you don't want wrecked. I wouldn't send my kid to school (or to go paint) in clothes I wanted to keep tidy. Obviously if there's a uniform you have no choice about what they wear to school. So if school uniform gets dirty on a school activity, as part of the normal course of that activity, I wouldn't feel obligated to fix the dirtiness.

Ah, get it now And agree. If it is an issue then there should be a policy and it should be enforced yes
