Hi everyone

I picked up my Omeprazole from the pharmacy today and it is no longer Dr Reddys (we don't use Losec). It says Mylan OM10 on the capsule and there's a label on the bottle saying "the appearance of this medication has been changed" and it is a different colour and the granules are smaller. Is Dr Reddys no longer subsidised? Anyone else using Mylan?

Thanks

I did know it was going to change but can't remember how I found out. There is some info on the medication part of Crying over spilt milk website and it is mentioned there but I think as usual it is all to do with costs and this drug is supposed to be the same but different brand and just cheaper for the government to subsidize is all. Would like to know how you find it though as we have another 2 months worth here but after that we will be on it too

Hi

This is the newly funded brand Omezol Relief. Dr Reddy's is still subsidised until next year I think when Omezol will have sole funding. Pharmacies will probably use up their current stock of Dr Reddy's and replace it with Omezol.

Omezol is actually more expensive for Pharmac than Dr Reddy's Omeprazole. I suspect there must have been enough reports to CARM of reactions and we made enough noise that they decided to change it. Most children were okay on Dr Reddy's Omeprazole but there seemed to be a significant amount of reactions/lack of effect. I don't anticipate many problems with Omezol. Let's hope!

SO it is possibly more effective? Or just doesn't cause as much problems with some children? Or both?

It may be both but we don't know yet as it hasn't been used much in NZ yet.

Hiya.

We used Dr Reddys for DD and found it ineffective so switched to losec and paid $$ for the privilge.
But we have been using the Omazole for a while now (thought we would give it a go) and have found it really good for DD. We will stick to this from now on smile

Interesting about the costs etc Roz, thanks for sharing smile
