I'm hoping that you might be able to help me, as you are all probably the closest to understanding and may have the closest experience with my daughters disorder.

One of my girls has recently been diagnosed with a metabolic disorder which requires her to have a glucose drink every 30 minutes to keep her blood sugars and energy levels stable (she gets ketotic hypoglycemia). At the moment she's either at daycare or at home where her teachers and I use the alarm on our phones to remind us and her to drink. Its been a few weeks now and she is good at knowing that the alarm means she needs to drink, so she's getting into routine.

But .... she'll start school in Feb next year, so I want to get her to a stage that she is as capable as possible of managing herself (I know she's still going to need help as she's still young, but this is somethings she's going to have for life and she is going to constantly need this).

So I'm looking for a watch, or some kind of alarm that she'll be able to manage herself, that I can set for every half hour of the day. Anyone have any recommendations?

Hi Dolphin, this is a tough problem, testing two hourly is a big enough PITA.

Frankly , i would consider it a big ask of teaching staff also, perhaps you may have to look along the lines of a Support person for a time.

grouphug i hope some of the mum's of young ones have some suggestions for you.

Get onto the school now to apply for High Health Needs Funding for her. At 5 years old she needs lots of help and it should be an adults responsibility.
I think in NZ the Baby G can have up to 5 alarms but you can buy watches with up to 12 alarms from www.Amazon.com
http://www.amazon.com/Malem-Vibro-Watch-Alarm-Vibrating-Watch/dp/B000CCDD6E/ref=pd_sbs_hpc4

This one automatically restarts the countdown so could be very helpful
www.amazon.com
Good Luck

I second this. She's too young to be doing it herself and the teacher wont be able to keep as good an eye on her as would be needed to keep things safe for her in a school environment, along with looking after 25-30 other children.

Apply early though, took us 8 months to get a response for Gabriel. And then took a further term at school to fight for more hours than they were willing to give us.
