I would be interested to talk to anyone who has had success with the FODMAP diet. I saw the brief article on Campbell Live on Friday night, with the reference to the success the clinician pro-ports to have had with Crohn's sufferers. Feedback anyone ?

My specialist talked to me about it, and said that they had found that often Crohns sufferers while in remission were still getting the sypmtoms of Crohns and have had success with eliminating certain foods. He said they have some sort of instument/machine that when blown into can pickup which foods are causing the symptoms. I havent used it as I have pretty much figured out which foods cause the symptoms to come on i.e. too much dairy products, seeds, nuts, certain fibrous vegetables, too much sugar, some alcoholic beverages.

I tried the FODMAP diet after attending a seminar in dunedin on it. I assumed i couldn't eat all food groups as i didn't have the ability to take the tests, while my symptoms weren't bad during the time i was trying it, they were no better than usual. to clarify i have crohns disease but have been in 'remission' for 6 years
but am still quite constantly unwell. which has been put down to having also got irritable bowel. while the theory and science behind FODMAPS is intriguing i found no basis that it was a one size fits all approach, I.e, garlic and onions seem to be the root of all evil under this theory and for me they are definitely not. A very restrictive diet which is hard to stick to and for me only highlighted how "different' having crohns makes me feel from time to time. Worth a try but from all that i have heard i think what ppl with colitis can and cannot eat is very highly individual.
hope that helped.
