DD (23 months) had her second asthma attack last night and is still struggling today - her breathing is not great and all she wants to do is lie on the couch. We are managing the breathing with ventolin and the doctor has prescribed prednisone.

She has EE and severe FTT is only 'eats' neocate/elecare and we are currently on a trial (for the past month) without her NG tube. Since yesterday when her breathing problems started she has barely touched her formula. I am now wondering whether to take her to hospital to have the NG tube put in so that I can get some formula into her.

Is anyone able to tell me if asthma affects their childs appetite and if so, for how long?

Thanks

Yes, for my DD in particular it does, not so much for DS.

DD loss of appetite lasts for as long as she isn't feeling well plus it usually takes her a couple of days to a week to get her appetite back after being well again (but she is also a fussy eater and doesn't eat much, at the best of times). She does have attacks but mostly her asthma is chronic so an episode might last a week or two (and if it goes on for longer the Dr usually puts her on RediPred).

Sorry, I'm not sure if that helps you much.

Is your DD drinking water? I would be worried about her getting dehydrated if she isn't

I hope your DD is feeling better soon. grouphug

Thanks Looby Loo

We are new to this, so not sure how long this will last. Her last episode only lasted about 10 hours. This time looks like it will last longer.

No, she's not drinking much water either. I think I will have to call the nurse in the morning to get the tube put back in cry

My boy doesn't eat or drink during the "attack". His last about one to two days and during that time his consumption is minimal. They feel pretty crappy during the asthma episodes and it does take a huge effort to deal with the breathing (or lack of). Would she take some water or neocate from a syringe?
