I have just spoken to Fonterra about the water content and it is less than 1% - and its in all butter. Mainland and Anchor are both made by Fonterra, and they have always had water added, it's only recently they have had to show water on the ingredients as it's exported. Anchor is not exported so they don't have to show. They are essentially the same butter. (So I guess same goes for cheaper brands) grin

Thanks Peony kiss

Why not just do icing? It is easier for kids to eat as it dries better. I just use hot water from the tap and icing sugar.

Do you not need to flavour icing? blush
I'll be using food colouring for the colour but will it taste ok with no real flavour? (I've only ever done choc icing or mint essence)

You don't need to flavour it at all. The Icing sugar is the flavour. I use a tablespoon of soft butter as well to help it set a little better grin

Thanks for sharing that Peony! I was starting to get a bit worried about the water in butter...

Bex - if you are worried about the flav...you could always pop a little vanilla or whatever flavour essence that goes with the theme of cake you are making for X.

I LOVE icing. It doesn't need flavour. I make sponges just so I can have icing.

Bex - that betty crocker stuff comes in vanilla too (white) so easy to just colour up - but agree - Icing sugar with a little butter and some water is all you need!

Have fun with the icing! Can't wait to see pics!

I find that icing sugar and water doesn't work so well for decorating - only for plain icing. If I'm doing patterns or piping I do the buttercream.

I can't believe the price the butter is there!! here normal price is $2.49 and it goes on special down to $2 sometimes!

To make cupcake icing i would melt a little butter, add a splash of vanilla essence then add icing sugar and a bit of hot water until a thick consistency.

Well we cheated (DH couldn't be talked around) was to buy Edmonds Strawberry Babycakes. He wants to do the icing which comes with it but I haven't been convinced yet.

Will just see what happens smile

PNS had Anchor butter at $3.89 smile
