You sound like pumping is going great! What does James think of it all? Rachel has had one or 2 occasions in the 4 yrs that she's bumped the set and had pain. Not enough to make us change. The Rapid D has a small tail which means the disconnect is away from the body, no worried about POO with these! We had quite a bad pump start in that our carb ratios were really off. We kept being told that we couldn't adjust bolus' until we had the basals right. The carb ratios were so off that the poor kid was always high and we couldn't set basals properly. Finally I went back to giving by the pump the same amount of insulin that we'd being giving by syringe previously and thingsstarted coming right. I think they gave us carb ratios of something like 1:40 and we really needed 1:15... Hang in there, it will come right I know a MUM who has her boy (DOB 3rd March 2008) pumping with the combo if you'd like to get in touch? You may have a lot in common!!:)

I know what you mean about the wrong carb ratio, they told us to start with 1:40 as well, maybe it's the default, actually I asked it's apparently about what most adults are on. The dietitian neglected to mention to us that growth hormone still in the body in the morning will make him more resistant. At the moment we use 1:6 for breakfast, and then 1:12 for everything else. with 11 lantus at breakfast. and 1:4 for correction if needed. Anyhow Glad it's going smoothly for you Eloise. I'm really excited but we're still 2 months away. Stupid Xmas :P

oooh would be great if you could put me on to some one with wee one so close in age to James on same pump!! Prior to pumping his ratios were 1:10, 1:35 an 1:25, but now the basals are getting sorted they are compleatly different. And not a big peak after meals. Less than 5mm/l rise, so getting good control at the moment. James was quite upset by his first site change, but other than that is great. He will come and ask me to tuck in his tubing or pump if they are coming out and asks for his bolus when finished esting. yay for pumping, has made such a difference to our family

Good to hear it's made a difference. What I'm getting annoyed with is labels that are wrong. We get Gabriel a gingerbread man cookie from the supermarket while we are out if he's been a good boy. Problem with that is that they say that 1 cookie has 1.1g of carbs. Which is SO not true it's not funny. I mean if i bake gingerbread men at home he needs 1.5 units which at his ratio is 18g of carbs. I really should go out and get some scales. I'm going to hate xmas day.

Glad things feel like they are returning to normal for you. I've just posted on the other thread that we're having problem with injections at the moment in terms of Gabe not wanting them and having to fight him to have them. Which is getting to me a little bit. It's also getting to him a little bit too, but he doesn't quite realise that if he doesn't have them he'll end up in hospital very sick and that wont be good for anyone. I can't wait till he's on a pump and that part of it has gone. He's always been good with site changes which is nice. and it's easier to bribe for something that's only 2-3 x a week rather than 42 x a week which is how many injections he gets now. Anyhow, best dash and get the cake out the oven

We are having an aweful time at the moment Gabe is reacting really funny to insulin. His lantus has been dropped from 11 units to 8 units. And if he's given any novorapid he hypos, regardless of what he's eaten. So yesterday for example he had 8 units lantus, ran round at a picnic all day like a made thing, and had no rapid, ate like a horse. Oh and was in range all day Been going on for a few days. Normally he's only like this when he has a tummy bug, but there is no vomiting or anything. We are at a loss. But yesterday for example he did get up to 30.2, and he was given 2 units of rapid and about 2 hours later he was at 2.3

It does happen for no reason at time I know for myself I have had days where I need only lantus and any novo has made me hypo. We are still battling highs with my daughter and any number under 17 is good at the moment and they are rare. At stages we start winning with her numbers but then suddenly what was working a few hours before is no longer working. We are still to experience any lows with her

Tari no lows is good though Well to a point, I can imagine how hard it is. And it'll be all being screwed up with HGH (human growth hormone) which makes them that little bit more resistant to insulin. We know with Gabe he needs more rapid in the morning because of it than he would at lunch or dinner.

I find anticipation and excitement one of our main causes of lows. Rachel has dropped from 28 units TDD to about 20 and we've had some numbers in the high ones and low 2's. Shes having lots of uncovered snacks.
For us its just something else that goes with Christmas Hype....

Tari - How is Jewel being treated for her Diabetes? Is she on oral meds or insulin or both? Its scary having a young child high for so long. She must feel yucky... and you must be so frustrated. Could she be teething which can cause insulin resistance?
I hope you had great Christmas despite D!

Hi, Jane, how things going? Frustrating time of year with heat putting their metabolic rate up as well as the extra activity to drop the basals! Am having the opposite problem as James is soooo hungry and growing so much at 20 months his insulin needs seen to be creeping up, am increacing the basals by .01 daily! Great to be able to do this with a pump, and finding the accucheck a great pump, as others you cant increace on such small increments.
Alpha, not long till you are pumping!! No more injections! I did an extra ste change on James today, as the old one was quite red after 2 days and he coped so well. Loving being able to enjoy all the normal that summer brings things with out extra injetions

yeah about a month maybe 6 weeks to go. We are testing HEAPS more at the moment, Gabes not sick at all, but his lantus has dropped from 11 to 8 and we could probably reduce it to 7 or 6, and his meal ratios have gone from 1:12 to 1:21. it's hard and we're not sure what's up at all which is annoying, he's not sick, well he has a snotty nose but nothing that would cause such sensitivity. Really wish he would come right I mean he's been cranky, in a I've not be sleeping way. he's also kinda off his food Which means he's not got the best diet at the moment as I'm letting him eat anything that he wants to so he's actually got food on board. Like canned spag at breakfast etc He's also got no ketones so not sure. *sigh* i hate the not knowing. Glad pumping is going really well for you though.

Right things seem to be returning to normal which is good, in fact maybe a little resistant at the moment. So we are trying to get things back under control.

She is on Lantus and diluted novo. She is currently on 8 Lantus and then 0.1 to 0.2 novo for corrections. We are trying to get her on the pump but have to wait for more funding to come through so are hoping that will happen soon
