Well we made it but have ZERO local knowledge and need a bit of heads up on a few things...

I would like to buy some nice linen for the boys room, probably a heavy quilt, I like that old charm look. Any suggestions where I could go?

Need some dry firewood delivered.

I need to buy a fireguard, went to a place on Port Hills road today but didn't like it and it was very expensive. $380

How do I go about getting rid of green waste (have a trailer so DH can take it)

Does anyone have a good contact for a concrete person? We have had a couple of quotes but its good to have a recommendation as we don't really know the quality of their work and sometimes the best price isn't the best job.

Thank you, we are getting there, our container is being delivered next week but the house looks like a demolition site, Im sure the old owners are going to be mortified about thei "beautiful garden" that we ripped out for it to be concreted.

Does anyone need a working but older disherwasher? Free to a good home smile

For the greenwaste, you probably need to go to the refuse station down Parkhouse Road.

I have a friend who does firewood, I think he advertises on TM if you have no luck I can PM you his number.

Can't help with fire guard or the concrete.

For the linen, well if you're looking for something expensive you could try Ballantynes... otherwise maybe Briscoes??

Good luck.

Ezibuy has some great kids' linen too!

I've recently seen fireguards at the warehouse for $79.95...black extendable ones.

We have recently used Concrart for concreting - really good service/product and price.

Green waste - you should have a green waste bin??!

Wood - have already PMd you!

If no takers - we'd LOVE to have the dishwasher if possible!

Enjoy your time in Christchurch! We're putting on some lovely weather for you grin

Welcome to Christchurch smile Hope it's not too cold for you! At least the sun is shining laugh

I was going to suggest Ballentynes for linen as well. I have been eyeing up a few sets there for when we buy Soph's big girl bed. Some of it is mega pricey but then some is comparative to what you would pay at say Spotlight or Farmers.

Can't really help with the other stuff though sorry, just wanted to say WELCOME wave

The house is great, bigger than I thought it was going to be but mostly what I was expecting. having a lot of fun doing things you
would like to do to a house, but often don't have the time or extra money to do it or most frustrating getting some things sorted ONLY when you go to sell and wish you had done it sooner (well thats what we have done in the past)

Thanks everyone for your help, its so frustrating when you need something but don't know where to go and you spend hours trolling shops and wasting time you don't really have.

The boys started school and kinder this week so thats also been a big thing to sort time wise and emotionally for Liam starting school for the first time, but the school and Kinder are fantastic.

Lisa not long till your in the second trimester too laugh

Thanks everyone for their help,

I went to Riccarton Mall today and all the shops had lovely girls linen but nothing for boys, Farmers (sheradon range) might be getting something in for the boys but nothing really nice. Going to try Ballanytnes tomorrow if I get time

Im also on find firewood to be delivered tomorrow smile I have a few numbers to try now thank you!!

The fireguard is a work in progress, because its so big its probably not going to come up on TM very often, and Ive had 2 quotes both around $400, feels like a lot of money, but then I don't want the boys burnt. Its not so much the exploring touching Im worried about now its the accidentally falling into it or being pushed by ones brother and falling into it.

still looking for a concrete person and also on the look out for a plumber as our shower pressure isn't very good and DH thinks it could be better if we change some of the old pipes? I did email someones recommendations but haven't heard back?

We are living in Somerfield EG, very close to the shops on Colombo St (and we have no family or friends here, infact before we moved here I had only been twice, once for a short weekend break and once to do an audit on the hospital (and that was flying in at 8am out at 5pm, so really I could of been anywhere rofl) But we did the exact same thing in Melbourne so I guess for some that might seem daunting but I just roll with it laugh

I would love to catch, next Monday our container arrives, after that I will be a little more organised, Liam starts school full days on Monday and Connor had his first afternoon by himself at Kinder today, so feel like Im going OK with getting them settled and happy. I hope you all don't mind me picking your brains on where to find this or that, moving somewhere new I find that the hardest bit, I think we circled only 3 times today haha.

I'm not in christchurch but might be able to help with a couple of things.

Ballantynes stock the Patersonrose range of boys linen which is really nice (we stock it where I work - it's fabulous quality).

Fireguard - we had one made by a company called Coni - it's a hardwood one and was made to the size we needed. Cost about $180 I think. Try them as they ship anywhere. http://www.coni.co.nz/fireframe.htm

Did you try Crusaders for your wood??? Or City firewood, as they usually have kiln dry stuff. Also get as much offcuts as you can, as CHCH starts to run out of offcuts towards the end of august, and you will need the fire going in september, maybe a little bit in October as well. We usually go though a scoop of offcuts a fortnight

Thats why i got my fire-guard made, ive had it at another rental house and it fitted fine as well, its something i will always have.
