Hi all,
My son Blake was diagnosed with silent reflux at 5 weeks, we have been through the various medicines stage, weaned off them and several trips to the osteopath (with slight sucess i believe)and are now only on gaviscon.
3 Months ago we had blood tests and came back blake had anemia, so have been on iron and gaviscon since.
Since birth blake's way of dealing with reflux has been to be attached to the breast. The specialist explained it soothes his throat.
Well getting to my point, after being on the iron for a week things improved dramatically on the eating front for about a month. Now we are back to eating less and less and over the past 3 or 4 weeks has wanted to be continually on the breast again. I know things are getting worse and I am not sure if it is teething or what. I was just reading in another post by roz that her daughter had anemia and she believed due to gluton sensitivity.
We have an appointment at the doctor next week for more blood tests for his iron defiency and i was wondering if I should look at allergies or sensitivities, not sure how to go about it or if its worth looking into.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would be most grateful. He still wakes up 2 - 3 times at night but I now think that is more habit than anything but cant seem to break that also for fear it is his reflux.

Many thanks
danette

Have a look at www.drgluten.com . There are some blood tests in there that I would have done at the same time as the iron ones (why not, in for a penny, in for a pound) and then you will know for sure. The tests must go to the Chch lab for processing which is the hardest part of the blood test as I have found out. You have to make sure the lab who takes the bloods rings the Chch lab where they are processed to find out how to mark the tests to make sure it gets to where it needs to go.

Good luck, it's a horrible thing to go through all the drama's only to find you are still dealing with blardy reflux!

I agree if you are getting bloods taken and you have some concerns then get the gluten sensitivity bloods done too. Is it possible that when he was eating better that he increased the amount of gluten he was eating - toast, weetbix, noodles?
