We had a visit to Dr Ford again yesterday with Caitlin and have been put onto Motilium to see if it will give us a happier girl. (Still taking 10mg losec, twice a day, and 2 gaviscon sachets in her bottles)
Caitlin has gone back to 'just the basics' of baby foods and prefers puree to anything solid
Dr was not concerned with her limited diet and said we may need to stay this way for another 6 months or so. Its probably not going to bother Caitlin, but sure makes meal times a challenge for me!

We started on the Motilium this morning and would you believe we have had 2 dirty nappies today (most exciting for us considering we usually only get a bowel motion about every 3 days and usually involves alot of crying).
We had been told that the main side effect of the Motilium can be diarrohea......but if it gives us regular pain free motions then its a wonder drug for us! (consider big brother has had bowel surgery due to not being able to have bowel motions at all unaided).
How long does it take to notice a difference in the refluxing with the motilium?

Would love to hear from anyone using it with good (or not so good) results.

Hope you and your little people are all keeping warm.

Hi there
We too have just started trailing motilium to(its been about 4weeks), gosh it has been a godsend for us. I was worried about the side effects of cramps and diareha but we have not had the cramps but have had a loose bowel motions (not runny) abit much info I know )everyday which is wonderful for us has he was always constipated. As for the reflux side of it we are on 1/2tab morn and 1/2night with the view to increase the nightly one to a whole if necessary which I have as he was still slightly refluxing and hicuping the moment he laughed and the refluxing has diffinately improved to nothing noticable and we have decreased the losec by 10mg as well so next month July we are decreasing the losec by another 10mg so I will then be interested to see how his reflux is then. We are totally gluten free and dairy free so our aim and Dr Fords aim is to fix his problems by dietry means. By using the motilium for a 3mth period will just get those muscles and valve working again the way they should be. So I to hope you have great results and a happy wee girl soon.

Is Motilium always prescribed for constipated problems - moreso than stomach emptying problems? I think Katey has issued with her stomach not empying very fast and causing the reflux or at least, not helping it .

Has anyone had it prescribed for this (sorry to hijack slightly Leanne ) .

Vivianne, the main purpose for us getting this prescribed is to aid stomach emptying to let Caitlin hopefully eat and drink better, the effects on the bowel is just a HUGE bonus!!!
Shes a bit grizzly today and we were up fequently in the night. I can hear her wee tummy gurgling so wondering if she is experiencing cramping somewhat. We are currently only using 1/4 tablet twice daily increasing the 1/2 twice daily within a week or so.

Does the tummy griping settle (if this is what she is experiencing) Does anyone know?

But again.......a dirty nappy today!!! Exciting stuff!!

The stomach cramps will settle. We had a dirty nappy during the night the first night with Gem - remembering she was four years old. She started on 1/2 tablet four times a day and now takes one three times daily. If she misses it things turn to custard. It definitely helps with her reflux. It isn't usually prescribed if there are major constipation issues but is prescribed for reflux. It both moves things through the stomach faster and also increases the tone of the sphincter at the top of the stomach so may decrease reflux episodes.

Not so sure on that. I can't remember. I think we noticed a difference quite quickly. I guess in theory if reflux was still causing damage in the oesophagus you may continue to notice an improvement in pain levels for several weeks. We do sometimes have bad days also several days after missing a dose. But if it is just non-acidic reflux it is decreasing then the effect should be immediate. ( Just my opinion. )
