Hi, My 6 yr old son has been waking suddenly in the middle of the night for the last four nights (not what he normally does), and complaining of a really bad pain in his throat and feeling sick. It's seems to be really hurting him and he's so upset. We gave him a indigestion tablet and this seemed to work after a little while, It also happened the other morning after he got up, and then today i had a call from his school at 10.00am asking me to come and pick him up as he was complaining of a sore throat and feeling sick (never has vomited with it). So i decided to take him to the doctor who checked him out and said he couldn't find anything wrong and it was Viral (surprise surprise) and to give him pamol if it happened again and it should go away. It happened again tonight after i put him to bed. My question is could it be reflux? What should i do?

Sorry to take so long to reply. Yes, it could be reflux especially with the response to the indigestion tablets. It could be in response to something he is eating that he is allergic to, or even to a post nasal drip. If it has cleared up now, I wouldn't be concerned but if it has continued I would ask the doctor if you can trial some Mylanta Syrup before bed, and if he wakes during the night, and if that is needed for more than a week (and is helpful) then you could ask about treating reflux with something more effective.
Hope this helps.
