Hi all!

My baby is 3.5 weeks old and is displaying silent reflux signs! Havn't got time right now (she is finally asleep and I need dinner!!!) to tell our story...but I'm wondering when i should give her losec.

We started on 3/4 of a capsule and after a week no difference. It's just been upped to a whole 10mg capsule - she's 4.1 kg.

At the moment she goes mental if I don't feed straight away so I don't know how I would get it into her at the beginning so I give it to her in the middle of her feed in a pamol slurry.

Is this going to reduce it's effectiveness? Any tips for a newborn on this stuff?

Please help!!! Ok...off to utilise my miraculous non-crying time!!!

this may help

With my one I give as soon as she wakes, then get her up, nappy changed and dressed before a feed - which is only about a 15min gap but still a gap. She takes a dose in the morning and then one at night - but is on a slightly higher dose than your one.

What about going dairy free - are there food sensitivities in your family?

Thanks! Do you mix the granules with anything?

Started dairy free today. I've heard mixed reports about soy - is this ok or do I also need to cut it out?

I use a little bit of water

So
1. moisten mouth with a small syringe of water
2. tip granules at back of mouth off teaspoon
3. syringe with water down

I do all this whilst she is lying in the cot

They say you can use pears but seeing as DS came out in hives the first time he had them I have been loathe to go there with DD and so stick to water

I replaced Dairy with rice milk and oliviani rather than soy but still eat soy in foods - but if there are known food sensitivies in your family you may want to think about it. I also reduced acidic based foods such as tomato, citrus

A plunket family centre may assist with some of the sleeping issues as well

Hi Luna,

Sorry to hear Lucia is displaying signs of silent reflux

DS had silent reflux and was on Losec at 4 weeks old. He started on 10mg which made no difference then was upped to 20mg which really sorted him out. It was a high dosage but he was a big boy and it worked!!!

I used to give the granules mixed with the tiniest bit of baby pear on a spoon. I would give before a feed.

Any more questions happy to help \:\)

Just a quick note - 20mg is top dose for 6kg baby.
You may be reducing the effectiveness by giving Losec during a feed. It turns off the pumps that make acid in response to food so for the first part of the feed this won't be happening and acid will be produced. I woud give it before a feed. Don't worry about waiting inbetween Losec and feed if she gets too upset. I wouldn't give it with Panadol particularily at her age. Try the pear or water. It can take up to three weeks to see its full effect.

I drank soy milk with no problems when breastfeeding Gem but she was allergic to it in her own diet. I would start by drinking it and if things improve but still signs of an allergy then try cutting that out as well.
