So I am trying to bury my head in the sand over the fact that Isobel has had a cough since summer changed to Autumn and it may be caused by Reflux.

Long story short, Cam was on losec and zantac till around 20 months old. Isobel came off losec at around 5 months old.

She now coughs (along with viral snottys) and without. The coughing can be day or night. And she can cough to vomit on occasion. She sounds like she is trying to 'huck up' some snotty type gremlin, but nothing really comes out.

Does this sound like a typical reflux cough? Should I be trialling losec. I have tried gaviscon with no startling results.

Thanks
Kylie

Reflux or Asthma or both? Personally would be trailling the losec over asthma meds first but if no go on Losec then would trial the asthma stuff.

Or even starting with zantac - but at 2 she might not take it...

OMG or you talking about our situation!!My son was re diagnosed with reflux at age four after 2 yrs of chronic coughing(from the day ihe came off losec!!) and on day 3 on losec it went. We were fobbed off by every doctor it was asthma but the inhalers did no good. He is now 6 and still on losec but we have come along leaps and bounds and there is no way I would have ever thought it wasw reflux!!I too had my head in the sand.Gavison satchets helps the coughing in the middle of the night them I would be sure to say it was probably reflux related. This is a great link

Hi
Yes we have trialled asthma meds and no change.
Not too fussed on trying zantac as its so weight dependant and a pain to give etc.

She does also get on occasion those dark rings under her eyes, allergy shiners I think they are called. But she hasn't had them for ages. I am tending to think that maybe its being caused by her night bottle and the same milk protein intolerance Cam had, but its never been bad enough for me to 'do something' with.
We've had more than our share of medical dramas with Cam so I have been reluctant to follow this any further, but its now near on impossible for anyone to get a decent nights sleep with all the coughing.
Thanks for your thoughts and input, I think I will head along for some losec this week.

Just to throw another couple of ideas in. The hacking cough sounds to me more like a post nasal drip. An antihistamine and/or steroid nasal spray may help if it is.
The reflux cough and asthma cough often sound the same in my experience. The only way we could definitely tell if it was reflux was if she choked on fluids.
And the cow's milk allergy you mention as a possibility...why not try soy or rice milk as her drink in the first instance? Don't worry about taking out the rest of the dairy at this stage. We switched Gem back to goat's milk for her drinks at five years but left in the other dairy for a bit longer. It did help.
