Thought I would share this with you as I have just finished reading an article. In this article twice daily dosing of Omeprazole was recommended when once daily dosing was not controlling symptoms. It said to take the morning dose before breakfast which we know. The other dose it said to take before the last meal of the day - not after the last meal before bed. Hope this is helpful. Thanks Roz! It is interesting as we were having trouble with Maia's reflux when originally just one dose in the morning. Her reflux has been very stable since changing to one dose before her first feed and one before her dinner.
I can't see the link but would be quite interested to know why before dinner? We were originally told to wait 30 minutes after dinner.
Cath we give 10mg in the morning and 15 at night as nights were by far worse for us and so after discussion with the specialist thats what he recommended.
Cath - Typically I would say the larger dose in the morning but if there are still breakthrough symptoms try the opposite. If changing to the opposite only moves the breakthrough symptoms to another time of the day you need to reassess their medication with their doctor.
Tulips - Our advice has always said before meals. Omeprazole turns off the pumps that create acid in response to food so it is no use giving it after food. You don't need to give it 30 minutes before dinner if dinner isn't the last meal of the day which with a baby might be there bedtime bottle. If you give it just prior to bed after all their food, it is turning off the acid pumps still but the acid pumps weren't gonig to be switched on anyway without food. Hope that makes sense.
